~ Puff Stitch Fingerless Gloves Pattern

Supplies: 4.50 Crochet Hook 8ply wool of your choice Wool needle Scissors Instructions: Wrist Ribbing: Make a slip knot. Crochet 32 chain stitches.

Row 1- Then take your crochet hook and push it into the second chain from hook. Now single crochet until end of row. Row 2- Chain 2 then push your crochet hook into the second last single crochet. Continue to make single

crochets until the end of the row. Row 3- Same as row 2.

Row 4- Do exactly the same as row 2 until you get to the last 4 stitches. Crochet 2 chain stitches, skip to stitches and push crochet hook into the second last stitch of that row. Single crochet last 2 stitches. Row 5, 6, 7- Same as row 2 Row 8- Same as row 4 Row 9, 10, 11, 12- Same as row 2

Now fasten it off. Choose 4 buttons that you like, then sew 2 buttons on each wrist ribbing where they would be if you buttoned them up. Button up the ribbing. Hand: Row 1-Make a slip knot. Taking your crochet hook, push it through where the two ends of the wrist

ribbing overlap. Crochet Single crochets all around the entire ribbing. Note Be sure to push it through both layers when your come to where the ribbing overlaps.

Row 2- Now after you've crocheted single crochets all around the ribbing it's time to start crocheting puff stitches! Note I did 7 strands around my crochet hook before pulling it through and making a puff stitch. Row 3,4- Crochet a puff stitch, skip one stitch, then crochet a puff stitch, skip one stitch etc. Row 5- This is where you add the hole for your thumb. For each person it's different, so you need to decide now where you want your thumb to be. When you get there make a puff stitch, then crochet 3 chain stitches (might need to make it four if you have big thumbs) Then do a double crochet into the next stitch, and make a puff stitch in that same stitch. Continue making puff stitches all the way around.

Row 6, 7, 8 - Same as row 3, Puff stitches! Row 9, 10- Single crochets all the way around.

Fasten off, and you are done!!!!! You can make this for any size person, just measure your wrist and make the ribbing that big plus 4cm.

Supplies and Tools: 4.50 Crochet Needle Wool Needle Scissors Wool of your choice Instructions: Band: Start by making a slip knot. Crochet 11 chain stitches. Then push your crochet hook back through the ninth stitch and make a single crochet.

Continue to make single crochets till you get to the end of the row, then make 2 chain stitches and go back into the second last crochet stitch you did.

Continue making single crochets, row after row. And so, once the strip measured about 22 (56 cm), I sewed the short ends together to form a band.

Make a slip knot and push your crochet hook through the first single crochet exactly where you sewed together the band. Chain up one, then crochet single crochets all around the band. Join with a slip stitch to the chain one. Then start crocheting puff stitches, Crochet 2 chain stitches up. Then you can start having some fun crocheting puff stitches! Note: I made my puff stitches with seven strands on the crochet hook before pulling through it. The more strands you wrap around the thicker the puff stitch.

After making 20 rows it's time to seam it up. You can make as many rows as you want, the more you make, the longer the beanie!

Finished Size

These mittens are patterned for preschool sized hands with older kids and women's sizes shown in parenthesis.

Preschool These mittens measure approximately 6.5" in length, including ribbed cuff. They measure about 6" around the hand (circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Older kids These mittens measure approximately 8" from ribbing edge, to fingertip. They measure about 7.25" around the hand (circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Women's Size These mittens fit most women's hands. They measure approximately 10" from ribbing edge, to fingertip. They measure about 9" around the hand (circumference was measured just above where thumb splits off).

Star measures 2 " from tip to tip. Gauge

17 sts and 18 rows worked in sc = 4" x 4" Notes Abbreviations and terms used in this pattern: Ch = chain Dc = double crochet (used in star pattern only) Hdc = half double crochet (used in star pattern only) sc = single crochet sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together. This is a decrease stitch. (Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to the front of work, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, pull loop through to the front, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.) Sl st = slip stitch st(s) = stitch (stitches) Tbl = through back loop. When you sc tbl (single crochet through back loop) you will insert your hook under only the back loop of the next stitch, not under both loops like a normal single crochet stitch.

The back bump: This is also known as the back, backside, or butt of a chain stitch. This is the part of the chain stitch that is opposite of the two loops (the ones that form the "v") that you would normally insert your hook under. In other words, if you turn the chain upside down, so that you are looking at the bottom of it, you will see a line of dashes. It is under each dash, that you would insert your hook if you were instructed to crochet into the back bump of each chain stitch.

Magic Ring: The star pattern starts out with a magic ring. If you are not familiar with this technique, I highly recommend typing "magic ring crochet" into your preferred search engine, to learn how to do it. However, if you prefer not to use the magic ring method, you can chain 2 stitches, and then work into the second chain from the hook as directed. For example, if the pattern reads: "make a magic ring, sc 5 times into ring..." you could instead: "ch 2, sc 5 times into the second ch from the hook".

The Pattern

Directions: Directions are the same for right and left mittens; make 2. The ribbing band (at the wrist) is worked back and forth in rows and then slip stitched to form a tube. The body of the mitten is then worked in a spiral from the ribbing up to the fingertips.

Make the ribbing: row 1. Using size G hook and main color yarn, Ch 7 (9, 11) sts. Make 1 sc st into the back nd bump of the 2 ch from hook, make 1 sc st into the remaining 5 (7, 9) sts. 6 (8, 10) sts. row 2. (8, 10) sets Turn, ch 1 (this is a turning chain, do not count as a stitch), 1 sc tbl into each st across. 6

rows 3 through rows 23 (27, 31): Repeat row 2, 19 (25, 29) more times. 6 (8, 10) sts in each row, 21 (27, 31) rows worked, not including the foundation chain).

Hold the ribbing so that your crochet hook is at the right side of your work (as though you are about to work another row). Take the beginning edge of your ribbing (the foundation chain edge) and bring it in front of the last row that you worked. In other words, fold the ribbing in half and line up the short edges. Your crochet hook will be to the right, and in the row behind the beginning yarn tail. Slip stitch these rows together by inserting your hook into the back loop of the foundation chain and then through the back loop of the stitch directly behind it (from the last row worked), yo and pull loop through to front of work and through loop on hook. Repeat across row. 6 (8, 10) sl sts worked. Do not fasten off! Turn ribbing tube so that the sl st row is to the inside. (The sl st row is on the wrong side of the cuff.) You will now stitch into the edges of the previous rows.

Make the body of each mitten: Round 1. Make 23 (28, 33) sc sts, equally spaced, around top edge of ribbing. (23, 28, 33 sts)

Round 2. 1 sc into each of the next 10 (12, 15) sts, 2 sc into the next st, 1 sc into each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc into the next st, 1 sc into each of the next 9 (12, 14) sts. 25 (30, 35) sts Round 3. 1 sc into each st around. 25 (30, 35) sts

Fasten off with a 12" tail. Use this tail to stitch pupil onto eye. (Stitch all the way around the edge of pupil). Use photo for a guide. Now you can stitch eyes onto head using the yarn tails from the eyes. (Stitch all the way around the edge of eyes). Weave in ends.

Size G (4.5 mm) crochet hook or size you usually use for making hats in the round. Hat will be looser with larger hook and tigher with smaller hook.

Finished Size Measures 8.5" ((21.5 cm) from top to bottom. Approximately 23" or 58.5 cm around at widest point. Gauge 15 pattern stitches and 9.5 double crochet rows = 4"x4" or 10 cm x 10 cm. This is measured on the nonincrease rows. Notes In the first few rows the treble becomes the increase stitch necessary to create a flat circle. Once you begin crocheting with no increase, the pattern requires a skipped dc stitch to accommodate the treble. Basically three stitches on three stitches. Feel free to experiment with the color changes, it turns out different every time. Double Crochet = dc Treble Crochet = trc Pattern stitch = Two rows of double crochet, followed by a row of two double crochet stitches and one treble. The treble is worked in the first row of the pattern. The color change is two rows of one color and one row of another color
