Quiz corrections 10.

E is correct because the last sentence and final phrase contrasts to the first sentence , reinfornces negative conntations and indicates a disturbing turn. it was a beautiful college vs insane asylum = contrast. Barren of buildings, rustic logs are some of the other negative wwords in the sentence. The phrase the road turned off to the insane asylum indicates that the narrators thoughts are taking turns just like a car down a road. A is wrong because the other 2 are also true B is wrong because the other 2 are also true C is wrong because III is also true D is wrong because II is also wrong 11. A is wrong because the passage indicates that the rabbits have never been hunted but does not tell us that hunting is not permitted at the college. We cannot make that inference. C is wrong because the comments do not indicate that tameness causes the rabbits to play along the roads and in hedges. It states that the rabbits are tame because they have never been hunted. D is completely off topic. The comments are about rabbits and not about human behavior. E is wrong because we cannot make that inference. Comments do not indicate that humans are cautious anyway and the comments do not indicate that the rabbits are cautious either. B is correct because the rabbits play in the hedges and along the road as a result of them having never been hunted. So as a result we can infer that wariness is a trait developed in self -defense. 13. C is correct because sluggish empty stagnant all have negative connotations and contribute to the tone shift that is present in the second paragraph. They contrast greatly with the descriptions of the rabbits and ants and choir in the first half of the paragraph. A is wrong because none of the nouns have any particular negative connotations. B is wrong because none of the verbs have negative connotations that contribute to a tone shift. They are quite similar to those in the first half. covered stand and see are quite regular for example. D is wrong because there are no adverbs when the tone shift occurs. E is wrong because there are very few verbals present and none of them have negative connotations. For instance, hobbling and crossing do not have negative connotations. 15) A is wrong because it does suggest ambiguity. if it happened at all suggests that the narrator is doubtful and uncertain. D is wrong because whether suggests that he is unsure if the veil is being lifted or not. E is wrong because the narrator states that because it runs with liquid chalk it creates another ambiguity thus E cannot be the answer. C is wrong because later on in the same sentence he states that he is unable to decide whther the viel is really being lifted. This phrase casts doubt on his descriptions of the veil that flutters in hard metallic fold. B is correct because after he mentions the college founder he describes it more as cold father symbol. This reinforces the notion that he is certain and about the bronze statue being a cold father symbol. 16. C is wrong because there is personification. For instance moon that kissed the steeple. A moon cant literally kiss something.

A is wrong because there are metaphors. For instance the moon flooded the perfumed nights. The moon is being compared to a river. D is wrong because there is an apostrophe. The narrator asks a lot of questions that is directed towards something but that something is not addressed by name. Instead it is omitted. E is wrong because there is a chiasmus. why?And how? How and why? is the chiasmus. B is the answer because there is no ellipsis present.
