The Week
This resource is designed for the introduction to your students of the number three. It will give you
a sequenced week of number activities. It is possible to use the pages separately however, and
tailor the work for your own student needs.
DAY 1 - Matching Quantities
Use the teacher flashcards to talk briefly about the number three and the different ways we can
show it. Give the students lots of opportunities to make groups of three using real objects.
Students complete the first page in their book. It requires then to match quantity pictures to
numerals. Students cut out the pictures and paste them into
position. To finish, students find the dice pictures showing three.
DAY 2 - Making Groups
Give students more opportunities to make groups of three objects and play number games that
require them to count or show quantities of small numbers (1-5). Students draw pictures to show
their understanding on the number three.
DAY 3 - Numeral and Number Identification
Revise the cards you introduced on Day 1 that show different representation of the number three.
Play some group games that help students learn these representations, like sorting or matching
games. Students cut and paste pictures that show three, onto their page. They finish by circling the
numeral three in the line at the bottom of the page.
