Entheon means a place to discover the God within. At CoSM, Entheon will be a sanctuary of visionary art scheduled to open late 2015. The ornamental architecture of Entheon points to the transcendent unity of all sacred paths. A continuous band of identical Godheads ring the building, with symbols of different world wisdom traditions above each Cosmic Eye. Wielding a snake entwined paintbrush as hermetic healing staff, the Angels of Creative Imagination on the cheeks represent tears of mercy cried from the many faced Godhead. The angels of creativity bridge the Cosmic Eye of God and the human eye. The many eyes on the roof represent consciousness. DNA dragons, symbolizing consciousness evolution, emerge from the Angels of the Four Directions and ascend to the One.

gratitude
Our deepest appreciation to everyone who supported the Entheon Kickstarter Campaign! It takes a miracle of creative imagination on the part of a community to envision sacred space into existence and that is precisely what is happening. Thank you to the 1,510 backers who responded, taking the Entheon project to the next level toward realization. Your pledges will support the elaborate architectural planning and engineering phase, lasting throughout 2013. We anticipate groundbreaking for the new steel foundations in Spring 2014. Due to the masterful direction of Nick Kraz, premier lmmaker/videographer and Kickstarter Campaign Manager, the Entheon fundraiser met its goal of $125K on day 29 of the 39 day campaign and went on to raise $210K, 160% of its goal, becoming the second most funded art project to date (June 2013). So many friends helped and we especially thank Joe Rogan, Alan Steinfeld, Reality Sandwich, Tool, and of course, Kickstarter!

As an extraordinary gift to CoSM, Ryan Tottle has digitally modeled the entire exterior of Entheon, bringing Alexs drawings into a new dimension. Ryans exceptional skill and generosity of spirt make him a true angel of Entheon. After careful architectural engineering, the ornamentally sculpted building will be 3D printed in order to make molds for casting the GFRC, [glass ber reinforced concrete] skin of the building.

For decades, the visionary art of Alex Grey has touched hearts and minds around the globe with glowing x-ray depictions of body and soul in the context of consciousness expansion and evolution. From 2004 to 2009, the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in New York City offered an installation of fty works by Alex Grey. Tens of thousands of visitors to CoSM came to experience the transformational power of art. Since CoSM NYC closed its doors, the paintings have been in storage and unavailable to the public. Its time to bring the paintings back! Entheon will be an exhibition space for these extraordinary iconic works. MicroCoSM Gallery in Entheon will show art by accomplished and emerging visionary artists from all over the world. A destination open year round, Entheon will be a sanctuary for contemplating visionary art, bringing soul renewal now and for generations to come.

Entheon, meaning a place to discover the God within, is the name Alex offered to the renowned Burning Man Camp birthed in partnership with MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies) and Matt Atwood (algaesystems.com) in 2006. Many of the best and brightest Visionary painters exhibited banners and live-painted (with music before an audience) in Entheon Villages various domes and sculptural tents.

We have traveled the world studying sacred sites with the intention of building contemporary temple grounds. After many years of searching, in 2007 a 40 acre interfaith retreat center was discovered in the Town of Wappinger, New York at ndthedivine.com. The extraordinary site with six buildings and a barn, walking distance from a Manhattan train stop, seemed the perfect site for CoSM. Finally, a place on which a temple could be built and community could gather to ceremonially celebrate, create, and contemplate visionary art and culture.

Since 2003, an unbroken chain of Full Moon celebrations have been held at CoSM, now in the library of Grey House, the visionary Victorian where community gathers, celebrates, educates and worships. Here, creative people are building an oasis for spiritual and cultural renewal.

CoSM Goddess

The proportions of CoSMs forty-acre site relate to the vesica piscis, sacred geometry that perfectly hosts an imaginal Goddess form. Atemple is a womb for the soul and intuitively a place of pilgrimage related to the Divine Feminine. A subtle channel runs down the center of the Goddess gure. Chakras positioned on this gure coordinate with amazing accuracy to existing power-points on the landscape.

The crown chakra, in perfect south-east alignment with the entire central channel, is the rst point to receive sunrise on the Winter Solstice and the location of CoSMs Sun Altar.

The heart center of the Goddess is where the previous spiritual center of the United Church ofChrist chose to place a pulpit in the early 60s for black and white ministers to preach together for peace and Civil Rights.

Positioned on the second chakra, the emotional center associated with water, is an ancient well.

The yoni of the Goddess is the entryway to the future Chapel meadow, now featuring artist Kate Raudenbushs sculpture.

In August 2013, the Town of Wappinger approved CoSMs site plan for building Entheon, The site plan includes the expansion and repaving of existing roadways, a new parking area, new well and water system, a septic eld, new lighting, landscaping and walkways, in addition to the building itself.

Chapel o f S acred Mirrors

Brian James, CoSMs head of buildings and grounds, and architect Al Cappelli, have shepherded the total renovation of three CoSM buildings, the ofce, the art studio and the visionary Victorian guest house, before taking on the most comprehensive transformation, an 1882 carriage house into a sculpted building, Entheon, a sanctuary of visionary art.

Chapel of Sacred Mirrors

For a time before CoSM, the second oor of the carriage house, [25ft. X 65 ft.] was used as an assembly hall for church groups. In this vast open room of Entheon, all twenty-one Sacred Mirrors will be on view. The roof must be replaced and the giant timbers in the ceiling will be saved and repurposed in a future structure at CoSM. The new ceiling will be higher to accommodate criss-crossed softs interweaving the arch-angels, visually connecting the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors.

Early Concepts 2010

The earliest visualizations of converting the 1882 carriage house into Entheon: Visionary Art Sanctuary began in 2009. The rst designs of Entheon featured an atrium lobby addition in front of the brick facade. Design elements such as Allysons letters, DNA dragons, arching angel gures and sacred geometry all appear in these seminal concept sketches.

Several complete designs were proposed by our architect and by Alex, separately and in collaboration, before the nal drawing of the sculpted heads was imagined. Al designed an affordable and elegant design, practical for providing an acclimatized, secure building to exhibit the artwork. Alex took Als framework and built his sculpted vision over that comprehensive and worthy solution created by our architect, Al Capelli.

Vision in Egypt
On Valentines Day, 2012, while on pilgrimage to the sacred sites of Egypt, we witnessed the sun rising between the paws of the Sphinx. Gazing out on the giant pyramids and enjoying Egyptian hash, Alex visioned this conceptual study including winged sphinx guardians, angels, serpents and a Steeplehead.

In the new design, several elements from the previous visions were maintained, such as Allysons secret writing, the angels of the four directions, roof dragons, and Steeplehead.

For the rst approximation of Entheon, Fall, 2012, Alex photoshop/collaged his concept drawings with digital sculptor, Ryan Tottles individually modeled elements.

Cosmogenesis
Circumambulating Entheon in a clockwise direction, we pass a number of interconnecting sculpted heads, each with a different symbol of a world wisdom tradition in their third eye. Turning the corner, we descend toward the back of Entheon, and pass a sculptural mural of cosmogenisis, the birth of the universe. From clusters of galaxies, the Milky Way is distinguished within which our Sun and planets revolve. The Earth with its orbiting moon is spotlighted. Atoms cascade into molecules that become self-replicating DNA and form the rst signs of life on earth.

Back Elevation of Entheon

The longest expanse of interconnected Godheads is on the back of Entheon. Under the corner Godheads on the back of Entheon are standing angels with wings outstretched. Angels wings shelter the chain of evolving beings. Centrally positioned under the Godheads, the Vision Crystal doorway alludes to opening the heart region of the building. The door is modeled after Alexs painting, Vision Crystal, a fractal eyed snowake that suggests mind expanding Visions are within.

Evolution

The sculptural mural on the back of Entheon continues the theme of evolution portraying the rise of species from blue-green algae to Homo Sapiens. At the rear entryway, the skeletons face the mature human man and woman. An angelic ying paintbrush drips a vision of the planet down onto a reaching child. With Divine Creativity, we leave our vision of the world to the coming generation.

Secret Writing

Secret Writing, which will band the knee wall between the roof and facade, has appeared in Allyson Greys artwork for forty years. The alphabet is comprised of twenty unpronounceable letters, corresponding to the nameless presence existent in all sacred writing, the spirit imbedded in communication that cannot be reduced to concepts. Secret writing in every culture is like a window revealing thoughts that become symbols manifest in the material world. Secret writing represents the language of creative manifestation.

Angel of Creative Imagination

As if cried from the Cosmic Eyes of the Creator, the tear-drop headed Angel of the Creative Imagination forms the cheek of shared Godheads. The angel wields a spearlike paint brush entwined with a caduceus of hermetic serpents, transforming the instrument into a healing tool. The heart is a vision crystal with innite eyes. An Angel of Creative Imagination lines up with a symbol of each wisdom tradition connecting the Cosmic Eye of the Creator with the eye of humanity.

DNA Dragons
Combining the archetype of the Asian dragon, Entheons DNA dragons represent the earths vitality and life principle, the roar of the mythic wonder of life itself unfolding. All of life shares the self-replicating DNA molecule and hence the evolutionary thrust is expressed through the waves of increasing complexity in the bio-realms. On the roof of Entheon, the tails of the four DNA Dragons point in the four directions, North, South, East and West.

Colle ctive Vision Roof

Collective Vision portrays a glimpse of Alexs rst experience after smoking DMT. This image has been seen by millions in the stage set and graphics of Americas #1 cult band, Tool. Allyson envisioned the Collective Vision as a roof pattern. Master digital sculptor, Ryan Tottle 3D modeled a version that could be adapted to the symmetrical roof of Entheon.

The single Quad-God Steeplehead of Entheon suggests the pinnacle of Oneness, the unied faces of God, in relation to the multiple heads below.

Soulbird
The soul and the winged angel are historically and archetypically fused. In Egyptian mythology, the soul is associated with a human headed bird called the Ba that arises from the dying person as they release their nal breath. This sculptural symbol combines the quad-faced angel with the body of a bird. Seeing in every direction at once indicates universal vision. The wings bearing eyes, indicate the ight of higher consciousness.

CoSM symbol
The Eye of Spirit or eye in the triangle, is an ancient symbol representing the singularity of God. In sacred geometry, the upward pointing triangle, like a ame, represents the mind. With the eye, the symbol can be interpreted as higher vision. To see God, one must look through Gods eye. Secret Language is an original intuited alphabet and essential element in Allysons art that represents the sacred language of creativity. Out of Gods eye comes the language of creative expression.

Fountainhead
Upon entering the narthex or entryhall of Entheon, the original brick wall of the carriage house (1882) will host an overowing three tiered CoSM Grail, a fountain to greet every pilgrim. The top head is pinecone shaped to recall the pineal gland associated with the Third Eye, Source of Visions.

World Prayer Wheel

The World Prayer Wheel will be near the entrance of Entheon for every pilgrim to turn as they enter. The World Prayer Wheel was created to honor all wisdom paths, to invoke the spirit of active compassion and reinforce communion with a conscious cosmos. The sculpture is a Guardian Angel with four faces staring in the four directions, a crown of eyes and visionary wings enfolding the Lotus Born Planet Earth. On the base are prayers for the purication of the Elements, Peace between All Beings, Abundant creative energy, and Liberation for All Beings. The prayer wheel is a Tibetan Buddhist ritual object, a wheel on a spindle, with a mantra on the outside of the wheel. The effect of spinning a prayer wheel is similarly meritorious to orally reciting prayers. A prayer wheel invokes the energy of active compassion for yourself and the world.

Doors of Future Chapel of Sacred Mirrors at Entheon On the front doors of CoSM are painted Adam and Eve, primal man and woman, woven within a sacred geometric template of proportions. The layout of the human gure portrayed here was inspired by the work of Father Desiderious, a nineteenth century priest, who measured ancient Egyptian and Greek statuary to arrive at these ideal proportions. The Chakras, a Hindu yogic map of the subtle body system, are represented by spectral colored circles ascending the spinal column. From the groin to the top of the head, the chakras model a material world to spiritual world hierarchy and appear in numerous paintings in the CoSM collection. The Kabalistic Tree Of Life from the mystical Hebrew tradition, is represented by white circles that border the doorway gures in a double-pointed crystalline form. Traditionally shown as ten stations, or Sephirot, the Tree grows downward from Heaven, from Kether, the highest spiritual center, to Malkuth, the manifest material world located at the feet. Adam and Eve have returned to the Garden to harvest the Tree of Wisdom. The fruits of the Tree are all the worlds religions. A tapestry of living creatures fill the landscape. Together archetypal Man and Woman are creating a better more beautiful world with their divine artistry. The central channel of the tree depicts the evolutionary ascent of consciousness symbolized by a winged DNA serpent with a cosmic Horus above. The Chapel shape itself is the pinnacle. The door handle is the CoSM symbol. A visionary temple of art can be of service to humanity pointing to the sacredness of all creation and to a possible future of unity and diversity in a planetary civilization.
