Important Notes
Safety Note Use air trap UNA 13P only to drain condensate from compressed-air and other gas lines. The equipment may only be installed by qualified staff. Qualified staff are those persons who through adequate training in engineering, the use and application of equipment in accordance with regulations concerning steam systems, and first aid & accident prevention have achieved a recognised level of competence appropriate to the istallation and commissioning of this device.

Danger The air trap is under pressure when the system is operating. When loosening flanged connections or plugs fluid might escape. Danger of serious injuries caused by gasket and trap parts that get loose abruptly. Before carrying out any installation or maintenance work isolate and depressurize the trap. The trap may be used in toxic fluids. This presents the danger of severe poisoning and acid burns. Wear protective clothing when carrying out any installation or maintenance work. Sharp-edged internals might cut your hands. Wear protective gloves when replacing the control unit.

Explanatory Notes
Scope of Supply UNA 13 P 1 Air trap type UNA 13 P 1 Installation manual Description Air traps with ball float and rolling valve ball for compressed air and gases. The trap is used to drain condensate from compressed-air and gas lines. Body with bolted cover. After removal of the cover the control unit is easily accessible, and can be exchanged without removing the trap from the line. The trap features as standard a manual purging device and a 3/8" BSP connection for fitting an air-balance pipe.
I h design for horizontal pipework I v design for vertical pipework

Function The UNA 13 P is a float-operated air trap. The rolling ball valve closing mechanism incorporated in the control unit is directly operated by the float releasing the crosssectional area of the orifice as a function of the condensate level in the trap. The trap opens and closes independently of the temperature and pressure prevailing in the body. Closing mechanism (orifice) for temperatures up to 40 C rolling ball valve made of Perbunan N, up to 120 C made of steel.
I Simplex design: Closing mechanism with rolling ball valve of steel I Simplex P design: Closing mechanism with rolling ball valve of Perbunan N.

UNA 13 P is equipped with a manual purging device and a 3/8" connection for fitting an air-balance pipe. The max. admissible differential pressure is dependent on the crosssectional flow area of the orifice and the density of the fluid to be discharged. The air trap UNA 13 P features as standard an orifice for a maximum differential pressure of 16 barg at a density of the liquid of = 1000 kg/m. At a lower density the maximum differential pressure range is reduced. The capacity of the air trap is indicated in the chart on page 2. For air traps for other pressure ranges, please consult us.

Perbunan N is a registered trademark of BAYER AG, Leverkusen.

Installation
UNA 13 P The air trap can depending on its body design be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines with downward flow. Flanged Trap 1. Take care of correct position of installation. Name plate D must always be on top. 2. Take care of flow direction. The flow arrow A is on the trap body. If necessary, change direction of flow. 3. Consider space required for opening tap. When the trap is installed a space of 130 mm is required for removing cover C . 4. Remove plastic plugs. They are only used as transit protection. 5. Clean seating surfaces of both flanges. 6. Install air trap. Screwed-Socket Trap 1. Take care of correct position of installation. Name plate D must always be on top. 2. Take care of flow direction. The flow arrow A is on the trap body. If necessary, change direction of flow. 3. Consider space required for opening trap. When the trap is installed a space of 130 mm is required for removing cover C . 4. Remove plastic plugs. They are only used as transit protection. 5. Clean threads of screwed sockets. 6. Install air trap. Change Flow Direction 1. 2. 3. 4. Remove cover C from body B , Fig. 2. Lever control unit I off its support using a screwdriver, Fig. 3. Turn body, so that arrow A points in the desired flow direction. Position control unit I on support and fix by two blows using a hammer and a punch, Fig. 4. 5. Clean seating surfaces of body and cover. 6. Insert new gasket and reassemble body and cover. Tighten body screws in diagonally opposite pairs with a torque of 35 Nm. After commissioning retighten body screws. Tools

Air-Balance Pipe For GESTRA air trap UNA 13 P we recommend the installation of an air-balance pipe K to ensure the continuous condensate flow from the fluid line to the trap. The air-balance pipe also prevents the formation of water pockets.

Maintenance
The GESTRA air trap UNA 13 P does not require any particular maintenance. It is, however, recommended to check and clean the trap at regular intervals if the condensate is very oily. Clean Air Trap 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Remove cover C from body B , Fig. 2. Lever control unit I off its support using a screwdriver, Fig. 3. Remove old gasket J . Clean body and internals. Clean seating surfaces of body and cover, insert new gasket J . Position control unit I on support, and fix by two blows using a hammer and punch, Fig. 4. 7. Insert new gasket and reassemble body and cover. Tigthen body screws in diagonally opposite pairs with a torque of 35 Nm. After commissioning retighten body screws.
