Suzie is a pretty girl who loves to hang out on a comfy bed! She gets on with other cats, as long as they are calm and not dominant (she can be alittle pushy sometimes). Suzie needs a home where she can be herself, and give her a nice bed and she will be content! At the shelter, she stresses out too much, so she is staying in another room with some cat friends. Here she is much happier. She likes to be pet and will purr and purr. Please come and see this girl, she needs a nice place to call home! Flurry is a very affectionate dog who is very people oriented. He loves to stay with you while you do chores outside, he loves to run along with a four wheeler, he likes to hike and comes when called, he is your shadow in the house, and he will crawl up in your lap at the end of the day if you let him. He wants to please you and learns quickly. He loves to play with other dogs. He is good with cats and horses. He is house trained. He wants to be with you and will make a wonderful playmate and companion. He is heart worm negative. Tonka is another irresistible T litter pup said to be a lab mix/ Great Pyrenees. If so this little man will most likely grow up to be a gentle giant as he has a very laid back, sweet disposition with his litter mates and his human friends. He is sturdy and playful but quiet and easy to care for. He loves to romp outdoors but when nap time rolls around, he is a champion sleeper. Tonka is looking to join his forever family and, like his siblings, he will make a wonderful family pet.

CIVIL WAR PROGRAM- A battle was fought at the rural Pennsylvania crossroads village of Gettysburg, P.A. July 1-2-3, 1863. This site is considered one of the greatest battles in world history. Approximately two million visitors flock to this hallowed ground annually. On Tuesday, March 25th at 7 PM Civil War historian Michael Russert will present a two part discussion on this battlefield at the Cambridge Public Library. The first part will explore the history of the Gettysburg National Military Park, how it began and how it evolved along with a look at some of the controversies surrounding the park. The second part will explore why visit the park, how to read the monuments, plus a look at some unusual places to visit. If you wish to visit Gettysburg, this presentation is a must attend. Michael Russert, a member of The Company of Military Historians and book reviewer, has led half a dozen tours of the Gettysburg battlefield. He taught for 35 years and was the coordinator of the New York State Veteran Oral History Program. The presentation is free and open to the public. Cow PTSD We always knew wolves were bad news for livestock, but a new study by Oregon State University has found that wolf attacks affect more than just the downed animal. Reinald Cooke, animal scientist at OSU, explains: Wolf attacks also create bad memories in the herd and cause a stress response known to result in decreased pregnancy rates, lighter calves and a greater likelihood of getting sick. Its much like post-traumatic stress disorderPTSDfor cows. Long story short: Stressed-out cows lead to decreased profits. Stress can be caused by many more things than wolves. Harsh treatment; over milking; under feeding; extreme hot or cold conditions; bullying by others; premature death of a calf and many of the same things that affect humans can cause stress in livestock. THURMAN MAPLE DAYS- Sugaring season is in full swing in Thurman, the little town with a big maple industry. In a region where historically more families than not tapped sugar maples to make syrup for pancakes and sugar for baking, late winter is a time of intensive labor. Maple producers trek into the sugarbushes, often on snowshoes, to drill holes, set taps and run or repair lines to carry sap to the sugarhouses for boiling and processing into a multitude of sweet treats. Beginning March 15 and 16, continuing Saturdays and Sundays through March 30, four Thurman maple producers will open their sugarhouses to show how this age-old tradition is practiced with the help of technological advancements. Each weekend offers tours of four maple operations Adirondack Gold, Valley Road, Hidden Hollow and Toad Hill maple farms, all offering tours of sugarbushes and sugarhouses, with demonstrations and talks about tapping, evaporating, filtering and candy-making. Expect some wonderful samples and great shopping for an expanded inventory of maple treats. Also hosting will be Martins Lumber & Certified Tree Farmfeaturing handsome maple slabs and Lucyanns craft specialties, all with demonstrations. Peru Llama Farm offers llama kisses, kids games and author-signed books. Nettle Meadow Farm offers cheese tasting (check out the maple walnut!) and, weather permitting, hourly tours. Activities at all sites run 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Valley Road Maple Farm opens an hour early each day, serving pancakes and Oscars sausages from 9 till 1. Read more and download the brochure and map at www.ThurmanMapleDays.com. Be sure to take a camera and email your best shots to Info@ThurmanMapleDays.com for future event publicity. On Saturday, March 15, plan to attend the Thurman Maple Sugar Party, at town hall, beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing until all are served. Hod Ovitt and The Warren County Ramblers will entertain with rollicking mountain music while guests enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet topped off with dessert of oldfashioned jack wax. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6-11, and free for those 5 and under. This event has been raising money to support The American Cancer Society for fifty-four years. For Sugar Party information, call 518-623- 2967 (or, the day of the party, 623-4050). See party details at www.ThurmanMapleSugarParty.com.
