In accordance with the overall mission of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), the role of SEAMEO RECFON is to promote excellence in food and nutrition by conducting research, training, capacity building and information dissemination in food and nutrition. In order to assist SEAMEO member countries to fulfill this aim, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides support for advanced studies leading to a Master or PhD degree in Community Nutrition at SEAMEO RECFON, University of Indonesia. Highly qualified professionals from Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Timor Leste working in the field of food, nutrition, medicine and public health who want to contribute to the community nutrition improvement and public health development of their home countries as future leaders. Master candidates should be no older than 32 years and hold a Bachelor degree in food, nutrition or a health-related field. PhD candidates should be no older than 35 years and hold a Master degree in food, nutrition or a health-related field. Excellent academic performance and a good command of English is necessary. For PhD candidates a research proposal is essential. Scholarships will be granted initially for 12 months and can be extended up to a maximum of two years for Master degrees and three years for PhD degrees in the Community Nutrition Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia organized by SEAMEO RECFON. Scholarships for Indonesian nationals will only be granted for the final stage of studies. Scholarships will consist of tuition and other academic fees, a monthly stipend, thesis/dissertation support, book allowance, health insurance and for non-Indonesian candidates only international travel costs. Field research outside the host country can only be applied for if included in the research proposal. The intake of Master degree candidates will only be possible at the start of the first semester. Applications must be received by SEAMEO RECFON by the end of March each year.

Deadline

Applications from PhD degree candidates must be received by the end of March each year for the first semester intake and by end of June each year for the second semester intake. Applicants must submit the following documents: 1. completed application form (to be completed online at http://www.ui.ac.id/en/admission/page/application-form by Indonesian candidates, or in paper form by non-Indonesian candidates) 2. copy of International TOEFL certificate, score 500, or IELTS 6.0 3. motivation letter 4. letter of recommendation from two referees (see http://www.ui.ac.id/en/admission/page/application-form for format for Indonesian candidates) 5. letter of recommendation from home institution 6. certified copy of academic transcript 7. certified copy of Bachelor and Master certificate 8. curriculum vitae 9. copy of passport

Application and selection procedure

10. relevant correspondence with UI faculty/ professors 11. 500-word research proposal (for PhD candidates only) 12. two current color photographs size 4x6

Preselection of candidates will be made by SEAMEO RECFON together with DAAD Jakarta office. The final decision on DAAD-RECFON scholarships will be made by a selection committee at the DAAD in Bonn/Germany in June each year for the first semester intake and November for the second semester intake.
