Working with EMERGENCY means bringing free, highly-qualified professional medical care to areas hit by conflict or complex health care crises. EMERGENCY takes full responsibility for clinical, organisational and management activity in our facilities and other health care projects.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES - OVERSEAS


EMERGENCY maintains a presence with its international personnel and manages specialized medical-surgical hospitals, paediatric and maternity centres in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Sierra Leone and Sudan. On average, more than 250 people carry out missions with EMERGENCY every year. The international personnel work alongside and supervise the work of around 1,900 local members of staff. 27 professional roles: 10 roles in various specialties of medicine, surgery and clinical services; 10 other health care roles; 7 technical and management roles. 110-120 positions on the organization chart: around 120/130 people in the field every day, taking into account periods of overlap and Italian staff on missions of evaluation, monitoring or maintenance of facilities. These positions are divided as follows: 20-25% senior doctors: anaesthetists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, general surgeons, traumatologists, gynaecologists (female personnel only), physicians and paediatricians; 8-10% junior doctors (7 areas of specialization); 30-35% nurses from various specialty areas: Surgery, Traumatology, Critical care, Cardiac surgery, Paediatrics, Neonatology etc.; 10-15% other health care roles: physiotherapists, midwives (female personnel only), perfusionists, radiographers (X-ray technicians), laboratory technicians and hospital pharmacists. 15-18% non-health care roles: administrators, logisticians, biomedical technicians, electricians, mechanics etc.

The positions are covered by turn-over on the basis of fixed term contracts usually of 6-months' duration. After several missions, some staff choose to work full-time for EMERGENCY, taking on coordinating or monitoring responsibilities. EMERGENCY constantly monitors the staffing needs of its hospitals: this enables us to offer missions to preselected overseas staff with adequate notice, or to open recruitment and selection activities. Each month we hold on average 2-3 selection and interview days at our offices in Milan and Rome. For overseas candidates we organize dedicated recruitment and interview activities. REQUIREMENTS, CONDITIONS AND LEAVE To become part of the EMERGENCY team you must pass our selection process aimed at evaluating your level of training, professional and technical autonomy, motivation, aptitude and other important requirements. People who work with EMERGENCY: - share our mission and work towards achieving its objectives; - have relevant professional experience, above all in hospital settings;

are available for an overseas mission, usually of at least 6 months; work as part of a highly specialised international team, supervising and contributing to the training of the local staff colleagues; have a good level of English and/or French.

EMERGENCY offers various types of contract which include: - monthly salary based on a standardised salary scale for the role; - incentives for successive or long duration missions; - travel expenses, board and lodgings; - insurance cover (liability, health and accident insurance); - a period of paid leave to be taken at the end of the mission. It will usually be necessary to ask your employer for a period of (unpaid) leave in order to undertake a mission. URGENTLY NEEDED A shortage of suitable candidates for certain roles, the planned opening of new projects and interventions in emergency humanitarian situations necessitate dedicated or urgent search and selection activities. These positions often have special requirements and in some cases require availability at short notice. RESIDENT PHYSICIANS Every day, over 130 international health and technical expert specialists work with EMERGENCY in the field. Alongside them, a growing number of resident physicians are now joining the team to work for a period of months in our hospitals: a highly formative human and professional experience. -EMERGENCY is always looking for qualified medical, surgical and health care personnel, as well as technicians, administrators and logisticians with expertise in managing health projects.
