Session of the Marshall Public School Board of Education March 10, 2014
Board Action
Approved leasing two busses to be devoted entirely to the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy Approved elementary model recommendation as indicated below with no change to the current elementary model:
Focus resources on early elementary reading literacy and later elementary math mastery. Continue to align the common core learning standards and implement changes with learning materials and to instructional practices in support of transition to common core. No intentional changes to district-wide curriculum at building level without full prior review. Any approved changes in curriculum will be applied consistently across buildings and classrooms with fidelity. Every opportunity will be explored to create equal access to special learning experiences for all students at grade level across the elementary buildings. Learning experiences will be balanced and equitable regardless of the building the student attends. Work will begin to merge the three building PCOs into one governance organization focusing on elementary grades K-5. All new students entering the elementary school system will be assigned according to class size and other determining factors; location of residence and/or parent choice will not factor into school assignment. A new transportation plan will be implemented for the 2014-2015 school year. This will include a review of elementary buildings parent drop off and pick up processes. Start and end times will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly as necessary. A school social worker will be added to the districts elementary staffing model to coordinate more engagement with families in their childs education; particularly around literacy and math. The special education model for elementary grades will be completely reviewed. Continuous upgrades will be made to technology in each elementary building in support of teaching, learning, and assessment. Student growth will be measured specific to teacher and his/her students, at building level and district level. Closing the achievement GAP between aggregated groups will be a key organizational learning goal.
