Standard of oral skills of English language among the students of Fast-NU Lahore
A language is basically used to demonstrate ones feelings, emotions, thoughts and needs. There are numerous ways to use a language. The best and the most commonly used is the oral way of communication. The ways in which the English language is transmitted through a conventional system of sounds compare to written English are termed as spo en English. !n our society it is often noticed that people generally feel hesitation about their conversation in English. So is the case with the students of "ast#$% &ahore. A very low percentage of students can be seen, using English, during their conversations. 'ral communication includes personal communication and formal communications. "ormal communication includes speeches, debates and presentations etc. As#far#as formal communication is concerned( a number of students can be found performing it )uite nicely. *ut when it comes to personal conversations, a very few students can be found in campus, communicating in English. "or this purpose they often use their native language or a mi+ture of %rdu and English. The ma,or problem of students is that they often find it a lot easier to tal to each other using their native language rather than using English, because they did not want to embarrass themselves using such a language that causes distortion during their communication. *ecause some of them feel that they are not at home in English so they force their fellows not to use English. Secondly, almost every student, who is of course a part of our society, observes the impatient behavior of public towards English language and its followers. *ecause in our society it is thought that the English people are the worse enemies of Muslims and !slam. So it would be immoral, to adopt their culture or even language. This factor eeps students away from English language. Thirdly, a very few people, who use English language for their conversations, often use difficult vocabulary, so that they can impress others. And they go on to use such vocabulary until the listener admits their brilliance in spo en English. So the listeners try to avoid them or simply surrender that they can not tal English against them. !n this way they even ,ust not bother to use English during their conversations. The students should understand the inefficiency of their nowledge, without a good command over English language. !t is often found that very intelligent students, who had got their degrees with honors, fail to mar their name in practical life only due to their inefficiency in English language. -egardless of what ability they have, if they are not able to communicate with others in English language, the !nternational world will not be able to pay any sort of attention towards their findings. They will find themselves helpless in their practical life without a reasonable command over English language.

Some oral activities should be held during tutorials of English language in which students should have a chance to enhance their spo en abilities. Sessions should be held to demonstrate the importance of English language and encourage the students to use English language during their communications. Students themselves should realize the importance of their oral s ills in English language, and create such an environment among their friends circle that every one can participate in debates and enhance oral s ills in English language. %se of English language for the purpose of showoff should be discouraged. Students should broadened their ideas and views and do not hesitate themselves in worthless views. Although it is true that the standard of oral s ills of English language in "ast#$% &ahore is not very well established, but it can be improved by a combined determination and commitment of students and administration. As a result we will have a lot better percentage of such students who will use English language for their conversations.
