Installing IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 5.

Objectives

Upgrading the TSM Server


IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 5.3 requires any package prior to version 5.3 to be uninstalled prior to installing version 5.3. When installing version 5.3 you will get a message if TSM detects a previous version already installed on your system.

Device Support
Before migrating your Tivoli Storage Manager server, ensure that the new server provides support for your current storage devices. Refer to the Device Support section of the Tivoli Storage Manager Web site at: www.ibm.com/software/sysmgmt/products/support/IBMTivoliStorageManager.html

Installing the Integrated Solutions Console and Administration Center

The new Integrated Solutions Console and the Administration Center may be installed on a separate machine from the TSM server, or on the same machine.

Windows System Requirements


Administration Center Intel Pentium compatible processor or multiprocessor based computer 800 MHz min - 1.4 GHz or higher is recommended Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 (on a 32-bit Intel system), Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4, Windows 2003 Standard, Windows 2003 Enterprise, or Windows 2003 Datacenter 982 MB to satisfy the installation program disk space check Added 679 MB in the temp directory 290 MB for the completed installation Network connectivity Static IP 1 GB RAM Virtual memory/swap space: Equal to double your physical memory. At a minimum, this should be at least equal to your physical memory.

System Requirements

Disk space: To install the console on a system for the first time, the user needs:
982 MB to satisfy the installation program disk space check An additional 679 MB in the temp directory (which is also checked during the installation) 290 MB for the completed installation

The machine hosting the administration center can be the same machine as the server if it meets the above requirements and is running on one of the supported operating systems.

Installing the Integrated Solutions Console and the Administration Center

Following is a step by step description of the installation procedure for the Administration Center. The Administration Center is installed as an IBM Integrated Solutions Console (ISC) component.

Refer to the Installation Guide for your operating system. The steps described in this presentation show the installation of the Administration Center on Windows. Perform installation in two steps: 1. Install the Integrated Solutions Console using the CD provided. 2. Install the Administration Center using the CD provided. Insert the CD into your CD drive, and it will run automatically.
