Naked lunch

Naked lunch story tells about fact circumstances of before times. It is actually focuses on the different tribes practicing different traditions and cultures specifically the south people between the river thieves and cliff-dwellers where Paolo the narrator itself, Tibo, Emma, Minda and Sergeant Arcilla encountered these natives during their odyssey using raft unto the water. And concerning at the time by them eaten a naked lunch in order to survive. Having put in this jeopardy situation, the best choice that they have is something that saves them even if it is against their will and their conscience. It is either the survival of the fittest from the hands of impulsive thieves and fearless dwellers.

Back to the story, it does not clearly stated there where the story began and where the group of Paolo comes from and what did they doing in river and why were they with the Japanese soldier? And whats the intention for? I dont really understand and yet some of the lines are hard to comprehend. Its quite complicated but an interesting story. Imagined of having lunch naked and is actually a humans meat is preposterous part to us, but to them is sensible.

Furthermore, the only part of the story which was clearly elaborated and I understand is that there is a difference between the two tribes and the way they live, where Paolo, Tibo, Emma, Minda and Sergeant Arcilla unluckily meet them. These River thieves are more interested in thieving than to murder humans. Even though they own the river; they can go fishing and make it a livelihood. Why such thieving made their preferable way of living? Obviously it is the type of culture they had. You cannot blame them for having that kind of practice. Its how the way they live. Cliff-dwellers also has its own way of living, which is they preferred to eat a humans meat than animals meat or fish. Where the group of Paolo have meet this native after the thieves, and forced to eat the fresh cooked naked lunch. Just thinking humans meat in this kind of lunch is yucky; it feels like of any seconds you vomit it. But for the dwellers its a natural food to eat and nothing more, nothing less their favorite delicacy. Thinking that there are still persons exists nowadays like the dwellers are quite shocking. Between river thieves and cliff-dwellers had a conflict in owning a territory. Claiming a territory by force is also been experienced in present time. Competition for scarce resources is inevitably, the various tribes came into conflict with each other. As the thieves are considered the owner of river that this was the reason why cliff-dwellers choose to eat humans meat rather than go fishing. Going back, unluckily for them, they encounter this savages cliff2

dwellers that made them to decide whether to live or to die right away. And to live, the exchange is to eat the naked lunch that is severed for them. In order to live one must endure it. During those times, people cannot easily go out everywhere because of the danger that might be waiting for them. Most of the tribes stick to their rules and dont let any people into their culture. They are protecting and defending their boundaries because it is their policy. That is Tibo and the group were been hindered by the river thieves and cliff-dwellers when they reach the natives restricted areas. Meanwhile, the different character possesses different values give forth to what reality is. Aggressive, determine, optimistic and religious in other way round. They were a perfect picture of true Filipino. How crucial is the life before, suffering from the hands of those people during that time. It is actually survival of the fittest from the river thieves and cliffdwellers. If we based the way does two tribes lived, through morality. We see it as a mortal sin. Robbery is already wickedness, how much more killing a human being. But then again, we cannot argue that in the means that it is their way of preserving their culture and tradition. For them it is a normal thing to do not a deadly sin, they dont feel any guilt and sorry for doing that. Thats the truth about them. Nevertheless, it is utterly absurd.

Having this kind of culture, especially in the south part where the existence of so many warlike peoples has fed speculation about human nature is a part of loyalty to their tribe. Paolo with the group were brave enough not to fight with the savages. As what his Papa Flavio said about the thieves and dwellers, opposite of what he had experienced in the hands of the dwellers are not so terrible. In fact, comparing the two tribes the river thieves is more impulsive than the dwellers even if they were fearful cannibals. They understand and empathized with people more it just that they being flesh-eaters their main food human meat and eating it is part of their ancient rituals. But thinking that they are like that barbarians of one tribe will usually be deeply suspicious of and possibly violent towards members of other tribes. Going beyond, identity gets its power in these situations because identity is closely linked with experience and real-world interests.

That is to say, the difference in culture shows the different statuses in life. It doesnt matter of what kind of dignity you have; the important is respecting each and everyones self-possession. The majority of people are not the base of the superiority and inferiority each group or civilization they perceive. The tribal people express their cultural identity and distinctiveness in their social organization, language, rituals and festivals and also in their dress, ornament, art

and craft. Having that kind of rituals, preferring to human meat and stealing rather than murdering are the facts where different culture exist and have been known. Being force to something that in contradiction of willingness and conscience counterpart to safety and security of oneself. Adjacent to this, is the best choice that we have is something that saves us.
