1. INTRODUCTION
Industrial training is a part of UNITEN curriculum, in preparing the students for dynamic and real-life of employment situations and also cultivating their professionalism, aptitude and attitude, adaptive, interpersonal and incorporating collaborative skills. They will be placed in the real-life situations working alongside with experienced professionals in the industry. The final-year students are able to put their knowledge into practice and applying the knowledge and skills acquired from their courses into the real-life working environment and gaining the required experience even before they are graduated. This helps preparing the students to be fully-equipped before joining the job market in various industries. The industrial training also helps to forge, foster and support a close relationship between the industry and UNITEN.

1.1

Objectives
The objectives of the industrial training are: (a) to expose students to the various aspects of industrial practices and ethics. (b) to apply the training knowledge for the preparation of their final year study.

1.2

Duration
The duration of the training is twenty four (24) weeks, during the final semester of the program.

1.3

Eligibility
The eligibility for industrial training is ONLY for final semester students who had completed all subjects prior to the final semester of the program.

2. THE PROCESS
2.1.Pre-Placement
2.1.1. Briefing 1- Application for Industrial Training Placement Students are required to attend the briefing for industrial training placement application. The objective of this briefing is to provide guidelines to choose and apply for the placement. Students are also required to purchase the logbook, which also contain the industrial training guidelines.

2.1.1. Application for placement The students are encouraged to apply for the industrial training placement on their own. The place chosen should give adequate exposure in any of the following categories: Audit and assurance (e.g. company audit, assurance assignment and internal audit) Accounting (e.g. financial accounting, and management accounting) Taxation (e.g. corporate/personal tax compliance, and tax planning) Financial management (e.g. corporate finance, treasury, investment and financing decisions) Insolvency (e.g. receivership and liquidation) Information technology (e.g. systems analysis, systems design, systems implementation, systems operation, systems maintenance, and use of IT in any of the above categories) It is highly recommended for students to check on the company profiles, which can be obtained from the following websites: www.mia.org.my For application to the companies, students need to prepare the following documents: Application letter Curriculum Vitae Verification letter from the COBA administration office For students who are currently holding any scholarship, they are needed to confirm with the sponsors for approved placement of industrial training. 2.1.3. Registration of placement Students are required to join and register their personal and companys detail at the Industrial Training Group which can be accessed at: http://asia.groups.yahoo.com/group/indtrainaccounting/. Students are also required to complete FORM A(Prospecting Training Organisation) and submit it to the committee six (6) weeks before the commencing date of the training. The committee will issue a confirmation letter to the companies registered one (1) month before the commencing date of the training. 2.1.4. 2nd Briefing discipline and Logbook writing procedures Students are required to attend the 2nd briefing on students discipline, students conduct and logbook/report writing procedures.

2.2.During Internship
2.1.2. Students are required to report duty at the organization on the date specified and fulfil the requirement of 24 weeks industrial training period. 2.1.3. Students are required to scan and email Form B (Confirmation of Industrial Training) to COBA within 10 working days from the reporting duty date.

2.1.4. Students are required to comply with the organization rules and regulations throughout the training period apart from the Universitys regulation. Students are responsible to keep all organizations information as confidential and must not disclose it to the public unless with the organizations permission. Any failure to comply may result a dismissal from the organization and extension to the training period or to repeat the training program. 2.1.5. During the training period, students are not allowed to change the training organization. Ifthere is any, students need to formally write the application to the committee. Only the application for change of training organization with sound and strong reasons will be considered. Students need to replace any laps of number of days during the process. 2.1.6. Students are required to acknowledge the committee for any changes of organization and students personal information. 2.1.7. Throughout the training period, students are required to record and update their daily activities, task or assignment in the logbook. The logbook must be presented tothe training organization everyday and should be available for checking at any time. The logbook must be weekly reviewed and endorsed by the training supervisor. (Please refer to the Guideline to write the logbook)

2.3.Attendance
2.3.1. Students are required to attend all working days and are not eligible for any leave. 2.3.2. Any annual, emergency and medical leave is subject to organizations policies, rules and regulation. Copy of leave form/MC must be paste in the column provided in the logbook. 2.3.3. Students are required to update the attendance summary form in the logbook and get the endorsement fromthe training supervisor. 2.3.4. Any absence for MORE than seven (7) working days is required for replacement and may result an extension of the training period.

2.4.Upon completion
2.4.1. Students are required to complete FORM F(Industrial Training Completion Form). Students will keep the original copy of the form and only need to submit the Photostat copy to COBA. 2.4.2. Students are required to complete the overall report and email the report to the visiting lecturer. Save the file in PDF format. 2.4.3. Logbook and FORM F need to be submitted (post/courier/send by hand) to the visiting lecturer NOT LATER than 14 working days after the completion of the training. Students are advised to make a copy of the logbook for security and back up purposes.

3. EVALUATION a) Assessment by Training Supervisor (50%) The Training Supervisor is responsible to assess the students performance using Form D(Industrial Training Evaluation). b) Assessment by the Lecturer (15%) The Lecturer is responsible to assess the students performance during his/her visit to the organisation using Form C(Industrial Training Evaluation). Assessment of Industrial Training Log Book and Report (25%) The Lecturer is responsible to assess the students performance based on the Industrial Training Log Book and Industrial Training Report submitted. Overall assessment by the Industrial Training Committee (10%) The committee will evaluate the overall industrial training process for individual student. It is based on the students ability to manage his/her industrial training process starting from the pre-placement until the submission of the reports to visiting supervisors.

4. RESULT
Excellent Good Satisfactory Fail > 75% 65% - 74% 50% - 64% < 50%

The grading system is based on all the four (4) methods of evaluation above. The passing marks will be 50%. Notwithstanding the above, failure to submit any of the reports mentioned in 2.4.3, student will be considered FAIL and will be required to repeat the industrial training.

5.2.General instructions
Papers size = A4. Allow left margin of 1.25 and 1.00 for top/bottom/right margins. Text should be typed using Times New Roman, 12 point. Text spacing is 1.5 lines, justified. Report length is the maximum of 15 pages (excluding title page, table of contents and acknowledgement).
