General Assembly Committee Turkey (Camryn Sippy)

PALESTINIAN RIGHT OF RETURN

The General Assembly, Aware of the Palestinian right of return issue and recognizing Israel's reluctance to allow it, Bearing in mind that Israelis do not want to leave Palestinian land to make room for Palestinian refugees, let alone consider Palestinian right of return, Deeply regretting how the United Nations has handled the problem leading up to this, the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) states, The international community has both condemned violations of international law and has taken action to ensure the violations cease. In the case of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, however, while the same condemnations have been issued against Israel, absolutely no enforcement has been taken, resulting in similar situations like the Rwandan Genocide and Srebrenica Massacre. (Israel, Palestine, and The United Nations), Noting with regret that every resolution Palestine presents is vetoed by the US, even when the majority of the Council votes in favor of the resolution, The other 14 Council members voted in favor of the draft resolution. But the US, as one of the five permanent council members with the power to block any action by the Security Council voted against it and struck it down. (US Vetoes Anti-Settlement Resolution), causing unease with Turkey, Fully alarmed that Israel has failed to abide by the eighty-nine (89) binding UN resolutions, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan addresses the United NAtions General Assembly stating; Israel flouts the United Nations authority. It has failed to abide by the eighty-nine (89) binding resolutions and has ignored hundreds of others. This is a blow to the sense of international justice. (Erdogan: Israel/Palestine Conflict), Aware of the approximate five million (5,000,000) Palestinian refugees living in inhumane refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, Reaffirming that Turkey believes that the recognition of the Palestinian state is the only way to end the dispute, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan states in a speech directed towards the Arab League in Cairo, Recognition of the Palestinian state is the

only correct way. It is not a choice but an obligation. (Turkish Leader Urges Vote),

1. Further requests the UN to determine the number of Palestinians wishing to return to Palestine; 2. Draws the attention to the illegal Israeli settlements in West Bank and Gaza Strip: (a) Calls upon the United Nations to place sanctions on Israel concerning their annexations on Palestine; (b) Calls upon the Security Council to remove and relocate the Israeli settlers inside the Gaza Strip and West Bank immediately; (c) Urges the Security Council to use military force if needed; (d) Notes that Turkey is willing to provide military force as needed; 3. Proclaims that the two-state solution means only one (1) location will be called Palestine: (a) Strongly supports that one contiguous state will be utilized to hold all Palestinian citizens; (b) Recommends that either an enlarged Gaza Strip or enlarged West Bank will be used as the single Palestinian state; (c) Requests that Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank be moved from these inhumane camps and into the new Palestinian state; 4. Confirms that Jerusalem will be a religious site open for access by both the Palestinians and Israelis: (a) Endorses that Jerusalem will become a neutral state and will be run as its own sovereign area; 5. Endorses that Palestine will become a sovereign nation in control of its own land and citizens; 6. Welcomes all countries to consider allowing the Palestinian right of return and accepting the benefits and safety it may bring to their country.
