We usually prepare 80 meals from a pre-selected menu and can always accept gifts of individual desserts (in sealed sandwich or snack bags) or cash support to help pay for the foods used. thanks all of you who gave so generously throughout the year. Your donations are welcomed by neighbors who are experiencing hard times. In addition to the food and household items they provide, the cupboard also has a boutique which is free to clients. They have counseling, nurse screenings, financial and emergency services.

In November, they distributed 210 Thanksgiving Food Baskets and, later, 250 Christmas food baskets. Please continue to donate items such as Ravioli, soups, detergents, soap, paper towels, and canned veggies. Leave your items in the box located in the mission center. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

St Philips Community Meal

The mission of St. Philips church is to share with others the gift of Gods love through our service, compassion, witness and life together. We are committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through word and deed, calling people to salvation in Christ and to live the tenets of Christian faith in love and service to others. January 2014 marks our 14th year serving the Wednesday Community Meal. With a continued weak economy and high unemployment, the number of people we are feeding continues to increase. We serve many ethnic groups in the Kensington community. The average meal attendance is 68 people and at our Thanksgiving meal we served over 90 people. During 2013, 2,730 people were served a hot meal a nearly hundred-fold increase from the 35 people we served in our first year. Beyond offering hot meals, we established a food cupboard at St Philips in 2012 that continues to grow. We provided over 435 bags of food to needy families in 2013. This program is a result of the love of Jarrettown Church, which got the program started by providing initial groceries and continues to provide food for cupboard. The mission of the Wednesdays Community Meal program is growing - a bible study, a devotions period and communion are now part of the lunch program. We are considering a Wednesday contemporary worship service as part of the lunch program. Our prayer is to feed people both physically and spiritually. We praise God for his love and thank JUMC for their service and financial gifts to those most in need at St. Phillips. As Proverbs reminds us, Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed (Chapter 19, Verse 17). We ask that you continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Kensington who reminds us everyday of the teaching of Jesus - - blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Spring WILL come, and with it, the beginning of the 4th gardening season for the

Jesus Victory Garden. After this snowy winter, it will be a real joy to be able
to get out into the garden to till, sow seeds and young plants and think of how our effort (with God's help) will bring harvests of fresh vegetables to feed those who come to the local Food Cupboards. To get an idea of how much produce we've been able to deliver in the past three seasons, picture trying to lift a full-sized CAR! Our produce weighed nearly TWO TONS!! That's a lot of Collards, green beans, tomatoes, etc. to provide nourishment and better health for many people. We'd like to encourage YOU to either continue helping this wonderful mission or begin helping this season. You can help by 1)Volunteering to tend a garden plot, 2)Contribute financially toward the purchase of seeds and other supplies, 3) Become a "Foster Parent" by taking home plants to tend at your home and then donate the vegetables they produce to our efforts here at church. Please pray about it to see if God wants you to be a part of helping to alleviate the hunger of nearly 1 million people in the Delaware Valley. If you have questions about our project, call Connie Damon at (215) 6436086. Watch the church bulletin for further information as spring approaches.

The thread of Christ as Gods sacrificial lamb is woven throughout scripture. Perhaps the most vivid Old Testament example is Abrahams offering of Isaac. The New Testament reveals that Jesus was offered as Gods sacrifice not far from the spot where Abraham laid Isaac on the wood. Christians annually commemorate this profound imagery all over the world during Holy Week. It is with this spirit of reverence and gratitude that we present

Philabundance - now doesn't that say it all? To provide an abundance of

food for the people of the Philadelphia region - can we help with that? Just get on the bus, Gus. It leaves our parking lot at 5 PM on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

Behold! Gods Holy Lamb!

Tracing the events of Passion Week from Jesus triumphal entry to his sacrificial death on the cross, this work is intended to enhance our Holy Week worship. May you be blessed as you recall the sacrifice of Jesus.
