TEAM ALPHA COMMANDER’S GUIDANCE

Mission: Team Alpha defends from BP Alpha vic. ND538414, NLT 060600 JUN XX to Fix the Assault
Force IOT facilitate destruction of 49th BTG by TF 1-4 AR main effort eastern flank.

Intent: The purpose of the operation is to facilitate the TF direct fire plan (DFP) allowing the destruction
of the Assault Force and Exploitation Force through TF combined fires. We will conduct a deliberate
defense, platoons in BP’s, oriented into Task Force Engagement Area (EA HOT) to destroy the enemy
using mutual supporting platoon battle positions massing direct fires at the Team Decisive Point vic.
ND554428. This event is decisive as it enables the destruction of 20 armored vehicles of the Assault Force
thereby facilitating Team Bravo’s mission.

Endstate: Team Alpha consolidated in BP with 70% combat power FMC prepared to conduct offensive
operations.

Concept: Team Alpha will defend from our BP with 2nd platoon mech in the North, 3rd platoon mech in the
center, and 1st platoon tank in the South. The dismount squads, under command of the 2nd platoon leader,
will be consolidated in BP’s to the North and West flank of 2nd platoon mech IOT deny enemy FOM on our
team flank. We will use the TF TRP’s to control our direct fires and we have responsibility of overwatch
for all obstacles within our sector. By integrating our DFP (TRP 1 to 3, % TRP 2 to 5), the engineer effort
and indirect fires we will be successful if we are able to effectively destroy 20 enemy IFV’s. Once the
Assault Force is destroyed we will then fix the Exploitation Force, utilizing the same DFP, to facilitate its
destruction by the TF ME.

Guidance for fires:

• Make sure your OP can see EA HOT as well as AA2 and AA4 that the Exploitation Force will
maneuver along. There are some SEAD targets out there that we must observe to ensure that we
set the conditions for our CAS to be able to fly.
• Plan an FA target to disrupt the Exploitation Force maneuver on AA4. You might be able to use
this as a CAS marking target as well…I don’t know, so make sure you get back to me on this and
let me know “what the deal” is on how we might do this.
• Use smoke Southeast of A2B to gain an isolation effect between the Assault Force and Fixing
Force. I want us to be able to focus on the Assault Force without being influenced by the Fixing
Force ATGM fires or maneuver.
• Plan a target to disrupt the maneuver of the Exploitation Force prior to their arrival in EA HOT on
AA2.
• Plan an FA FPF that is integrated with our mounted direct fire plan (DFP).
