Headmasters Corner
Such is the level of success in Tockington Manor at the moment we were unable to put all of our achievements in last weeks six page Tracker. We start this week by congratulating all the children and staff (and parents!) involved with the Eisteddfod competition. I know that Ms Case has written more about this later in the newsletter but I wanted to highlight just how well the school is performing at the moment. To see so many Merits, Distinctions, 3rd Place, 2nd Place and 1st Places being awarded is almost beyond all superlatives. We very much look forward to hearing them all again in next Tuesdays assembly and I extend an invitation to you all to come in and join us. You will recall that I announced in last weeks Tracker that Mrs Leonora Martin will be moving on at the end of this term. I would like to thank her for all that she has done for both the school and the Art Department in the last few years. I am delighted to announce that Mrs Mockridge has been appointed as her replacement with effect from April 2014 and we wish her every success in the terms and years to come. Mrs Mockridge studied Art at Oxford Brookes University and is looking forward to starting her new role. I look forward to seeing you all at the school production of The Wizard of Oz next Monday and Tuesday.

Year 2 Workshop
Year 2 experienced an 'electrifying' Science workshop on Tuesday from Freshwater Theatre Company. They learned about circuits, static electricity, voltage and much more. They even managed to defeat Morris the Monster with their electricity knowledge.

Summer Uniform
Boys in Years 3-8 may wear short, grey school trousers next term if they wish (N.B. no combat-style shorts are allowed).

Ballet & Judo Classes

There are no ballet or judo classes after school next week. These will commence again in the Summer Term.

Thornbury Eisteddfod
Speech and Drama On Saturday a large number our our children took part in the Speech and Drama Eisteddfod in Thornbury. They performed very well indeed and had a very positive experience in the hands of the adjudicator, Rebecca Thompson. The children all had great courage in a range of different classes including Poetry Recital, Duo Poetry, Reading Aloud, StoryTelling, Shakespeare Solo and Acting. There were many notable achievements and the children coped very well with the pressure which they must have been feeling. The adjudicator spelled out how important it was to be able to stand up in front of an audience you have not met before and perform publicly and described this as an essential life skill. We hope to have just as much enthusiasm for the Eisteddfod next year and congratulate all of the children for their determination, courage, application, reliability and good sportsmanship. Well done! Cross Country
Record Breaker Congratulations to Alex Grocott who lowered his own record by another seven seconds to an impressive 7 minutes 0 seconds on our hilly 2155 metre course. He has now broken the record six times over the past 18 months. There have been many excellent performances over the last two runs with the pupils hitting their peak fitness and the underfoot conditions being ideal for Personal Bests. Junior Course Alex Jacobi and Dalis Jones lowered their bests to 7 minutes 30 seconds and 8 minutes 10 seconds respectively, securing their positions at No. 2 on the Boys and Girls all-time limit. Jessie Sanzo ran a fast race, coming home in 8 minutes 13 seconds, placing her equal third on the list. Mini Course Years 3 and 4 have had a fabulous term. All the pupils have put in an admirable effort over the last two terms. Otis Walker now leads the way and has lowered his best down to 2 minutes 48 seconds (2nd on all-time list). Jake Wakeling and Freddie Cooper continue to limb up the rankings with 2 minutes 53 seconds and 2 minutes 56 seconds respectively. Archie Carter and Rohan Howard-Robinson achieved a long awaited and deserved list time with their excellent efforts. Iona Campbell continues to lead the girls around the course and has lowered her best. Harry Mather (Year 3) achieved the rare feat of running a sub three minute time (2 minutes 59 seconds). Harry is currently our fastest Year 3 athlete. Senior Course There were fabulous runs from Tom Edwards, Oliver Shutt and Alejandro Araujo and excellent runs from the rapidly improving Henry Allan-Jones and Otto Cullis. Lucy Allan-Jones and Olivia Campbell achieved list times, running determinedly. They have worked hard to achieve this. Antonia Hopcraft-Guest ran a super Personal Best, lowering her time to an impressive 14 minutes 38 seconds. Goose Egg Gallop The winners of the Goose Egg Gallop were Alex Grocott, Alex Jacobi, Olivia Campbell, Oliver Shutt, Harry Mather and Jake Wakeling. This is a busy, exciting time for cross country. We are looking forward to the Hatherop Castle Relays in the Cotswolds next Wednesday. Mr Jones

News from Year 1

Church Visit Year 1 took baby doll Lizzy Rose down to Olveston Church last week where Reverend Rowe talked to them all aboutBaptism. A big well done goes to the parents Emily and Thibault and Godparents Georgia, Gemma and Toby! Baby Lizzy was very well behaved and didn't cry once!

Blaise Castle Year 1 had a super day out at Blaise Castle where they took part in a Victorian Toy Workshop. They dressed as Victorian children and explored all the old toys. They even remembered not to smile for the camera! Our day was rounded off with fun on the adventure playground. Now it's back to the classroom to design our own pieces of playground equipment. A great day was had by all
