New Profile Endcut Selection Dialog

Description
The interface for selection of profile endcut has been improved. The new selection dialog provides a higher degree of support than before when an endcut should be choosen. Accurate endcut sketches and guiding documentation is displayed in the dialog. Active endcut selection rules are employed to govern what endcut types and what endcut parameters it is possible to select from. The dialog is customised by writing active selection rules in a plain text file and then updating the attributes of the setting drawing __SBH_ECUT_MENU__ by using the function Initiate Hull Standards -> Profiles and Flanges -> Endcut selection. If this drawing is missing then the selection of endcuts will behave as before. (It can be fetched from the template project delivered together with Tribon M3, Servide Pack 3.)

Benefits
Improved user interface when selecting profile endcuts.

Curved Parts Generation (cpanparts) Update

Description
The cpanparts function releases shell members from the structure databank (OGDB) to the production data banks, supplying the parts with marking, etc. The part of this function that deals with shell plates has been almost completely re-programmed in Tribon M3, Service Pack 3 (M3SP3). The purpose of this re-programming has been to improve performance, enhance functionality and make maintenance easier. The result is considerably improved performance, especially for shell plates developed by the M3SP3 version of Curved Hull Modelling. The new program version has been subject to intense testing to ensure the same correct result as in the previous version. However, there are many different options for handling of shell plates regarding naming, symmetries, type of marking, etc. and therefore customers are encouraged to make an initial careful check of the results of the new program with their special conditions before taking it into production. Any observed unexpected results should immediately be reported to Aveva. The program should support all previously supported options but the following set-up is strongly recommended:
1993-2005 AVEVA AB

New naming, i.e. the names of plates on PLDB should be formed by combining the name of the panel with the sequence number of the plate within the panel (e.g. the plate in attribute 2003 of panel AB123-4 will get then name AA123-4-3<>) Symmetrical plates (in OGDB) should be stored in individual copies in PLDB, valid PS and SB, respectively. In the example above the names would become AB123-4-3P and AB123-4-3S.

This is the default option that will be applied unless changed by Environment variables.

Benefits
Considerably improved performance and a program easier to maintain.

Compatibility Constraints
None, however performance increase is higher for newly developed plates.

Topology for Curved Hull Members

Description
In Planar Hull Tribon automatically keeps track of topological relationships in a separate databank (SB_REFDB). From the information in this databank you can for instance find out which objects depend on a specified plane panel or which objects a specified panel refers to. Until now these topological relationships have been kept only for planar hull members. From Tribon M3, Service Pack 3 they are extended to cover also curved hull members. Related to this there is a new interactive function in the Curved menu of Curved Hull Modelling (CHM) by name Topology. Basically this function works in the same way as the corresponding Topology function for Planar Hull. You can select a root object (the current select filter of CHM is valid), and then select the type of relation you want to check. Options are: defining, dependant or dependant all. The related members will then be highlighted in the drawing. At this point you may also select the highlighted object, i.e. put them on the select stack of CHM so that they can be further processed, e.g. by activating the Recreate function.

1993-2005 AVEVA AB

Note: Please note that in order to take advantage of the new interactive function in an old project, the topology databank must be updated with topology-information from the objects you want to check. This can be done by recreating and storing of the curved hull objects. As an alternative you may also use the command-line program sj903, which will update the topology for a specified set of objects (without recreating them).

Benefits
You can easily check topological relations for curved hull objects and e.g. have the effects of changes propagated to all dependent objects.

Compatibility Constraints
For an old project he topology databank must be updated with data for the curved hull objects.

Shell Plate Thickness in Symbolic Views

Description
When creating views there is a default option to include the section of any intersected surfaces in the views. By default the section curves are indicated by bold lines but disregarding the actual thickness of the plates generated in the surface. In Tribon M3, Service Pack 3 an option has been added to consider and display the thickness of e.g. the shell plating, i.e. the surface section will show two curves, one for each side of the plating. This new option is activated by a new tick box in the form for generation of symbolic views. When active it, has a certain implication on the performance of the view generation. This option is especially valuable in projects where there are shell members, not attached directly against the moulded surface, i.e. when the shell plate thickness need be considered for the attached members.

Benefits
1993-2005 AVEVA AB

The actual plate thickness is displayed. In general, taking the shell plating into consideration (e.g. in sections of shell profiles, both in views and when modelling) is sensible to a correct definition of the shell plates, e.g. that there are no overlaps or duplicates between the plates. Any errors of this kind in the definition of the shell plates can easily be identified by inspecting the section curves in views. Thus modelling errors can be eliminated.

Cutouts for Panels

Description
It has since long been possible to apply cutouts for profiles also for a panel provided its cross section looks like a profile section. A typical example is a small web or girder without any internal stiffening and with a flange (face plate) on top. The section of such a panel looks like a T-bar and will be treated as such by Tribon when a cutout should be made for it. This option to make cutouts for panels has been given two new features in Tribon M3, Service Pack 3 (M3SP3): Cutouts can now be made also for panels without any flange, i.e. whose cross section looks like a flat bar. Condition for this is that the two involved panels have a common base plane, e.g. both attached to the same platform. Previously, this option lacked interactive support, i.e. you had to create/modify input via the scheme editor. From M3SP3 you may pick the panel interactively for which to make the cutout in the same way as when you pick a profile section.

1993-2005 AVEVA AB

Benefits
Flat bars are supported and the definition is more straight-forward than before.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Affected Programs
In principle all programs displaying or making use of cutouts but primarily the Planar Hull Modelling function.

Shell Expansion Program, Improvements

Description
In previous versions of Curved Hull Modelling the function for creation of shell expansion views sometimes created curves (especially of the CL curve) that obviously were incorrect (e.g. they might be out of position, resulting in curves with loops, etc.). This normally happened only in the stern and stem parts of the ship. Some of the problems may depend on a poorly faired surface or the curves had not been generated in current version of the surface. But in other cases special geometrical conditions needed be taken into consideration in a more careful way. For Tribon M3, Service Pack 3, a number of peculiar shell expansion views with these kinds of problems have been reviewed and the reason for them eliminated. In general, therefore, the resulting shell expansion views should now have a better quality in these respects. AVEVA would be happy to examine and hopefully eliminate any reported and documented remaining problems of the types described above.

Benefits
Fewer inconveniences in shell expansion views.

Symmetry Handling in Curved Hull Modelling

Description
Some important improvements have been made regarding symmetry issues in Curved Hull Modelling. 1. A new function makes it easy to divide a symmetric shell profile into two, one portside (PS) specific and one starboard (SB) specific. This may be useful for almost symmetric profiles, e.g. differing between PS and SB only regarding holes. Objects related to a divided profile, e.g. shell stiffeners, curved panels and planar panels will be updated as well if necessary. 2. A symmetric curved panel may now contain PS or SB specific shell stiffeners. If a curved panel differs between PS and SB only regarding stiffeners and holes, the panel may still be defined as symmetric and created only once. 3. Some important error corrections related to symmetry have been made. The following activities are now supported: Addition/Removal of SB specific parts to/from an SB specific curved panel. Addition of PS or SB specific parts to a panel extending over CL Addition of symmetric parts to a panel extending over CL (both instances added). Plates that extend over CL and have been generated using mirrored seams can now be added to a panel extending over CL.

1993-2005 AVEVA AB

Benefits
It has become much easier to refine model data from the early design when the detailing for production introduces differences between PS and SB in the originally symmetric profile. Thus, time will be reduced for modifications in the detailed design phase. - Moreover, certain limitations in combinations of symmetries between parts and curved panels have been eliminated.

Mirrored Points, Planes and Curves in Curved Hull

Description
From Tribon M3, Service Pack 3 it is possible in Curved Hull to define a point, plane or curve by rmirroring another object of the same kind in the centre line. The mirrored object will be topologically connected to the original one, so any change in the original object can be seen also in the mirrored one after recreating it with the Recreate function.

Benefits
New options available when modelling the curved parts of the hull.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Note on Shell Plate Development

Description
Tribon has traditionally had the following rule for defintion of shell plates: The aftmost seam/butt should be selected as the first plate limit The remaining seams/butts should be picked in a clockwise direction when seen from inside the ship.

This is still a good and recommended way of working but this rule may sometimes be somewhat ambiguous and difficult to apply, e.g. in situations and for surfaces where it is not obvious what is inside and outside, respectively. Also in a deck surface it may be most convenient to consider the upper surface as the positive side. Recent development allows a somewhat generalised rule: Inside (or positive side) is the side of the surface (and thus of the plate) from which the plate when regarded has been described in a clockwise direction. This is in full accordance with the traditional Tribon rule as described above. If, however, the plate (when looked upon from inside the hull) has been described in a counter-clockwise direction the outer side become inside (or rather the positive side).
1993-2005 AVEVA AB

In any case it is most essential that when defining the plate thickness (and location relative to the moulded surface) the plate direction is taken into consideration. In a generalised case inside in the plate definition form should be interpreted as the positive side. It is recommended to stick the standard Tribon rule whenever applicable.

Benefits
Defintion of plate materil orientationcan be done in a controlled way independent of how and where the plate is defined.

Compatibility Constraints
None.

Affected Programs
