What is the purpose of this source?

The purpose of this source is to get the British and the American people to see that Germany is a diabolical and intolerable force that must be stopped; its effective was that it motivated young men to enlist into the army to destroy and beat the brute to rescue the woman it has captured to become a true hero. This source does that by representing Germany as a heinous ape which has captured a defenseless woman, which can be interpreted as liberty or freedom. This creates a juxtaposition between the two elements, the brutal ape, and the defenseless woman. As these two elements create a unotrhodox presentation which can be resolved by the soldier signing up to help defeat and destroy the brute to save them and their countrys freedom. It also creates the effect that the viewer should stay away from the brute and amass the support for the war effort on the side of the allies. The beast is also shown stepping onto the American land, which could make people fearful as it is intruding on to their land, becoming closer to the viewer. This will make the viewer more reluctant to sign up, as most people were patriotic so they would wan to defend their land, their freedom, and their country. An alternative significance of the mad brute stepping on to the American land is that if the war is not fought and finished in Europe, then it would move on American soil, which people certainly did not want. Moreover, written on the side of the bat like object the ape is holding is the word kultur which mean culture. This means that it is bringing the Germany culture into America and by doing this, destroying Americas culture; which would enrage the patriot of America even more. Correspondingly, the word militarism is written upon the helmet of the mad brute. Militarism is the belief that a government and its people of that country should maintain a strong military capability and are prepared to use it aggressively to promote its national interests. This means that they are certainly going to take what they want by force if they get the chance. This visually implicates the viewer to sign up as it gives the effect that unless they sign up to fight against the mad brute (Germany) then their country will fall into its hand, their freedom going with it. The viewer is more inclined and appealed to sign up by knowing they have the chance to rescue liberty and become a hero. In conclusion the purpose of this source was to enrage the patriotic youth, so that they would sign up to the army so that they could destroy Germany, represented as a mad brute, and become a hero. The main purpose of this inflammatory propaganda; aimed at the short term goal of immediate reaction for the young patriotic youth to sign up. This produces the elements of prejudice, subjugation, and violence, which becomes incredibly difficult to pretence such a mass facade of superfluities and falsehoods.
