Emergencies can ha en at any time! and the ramifications can "e very serious and must "e considered "y all ersonnel. 9n emergency situation could necessitate the evacuation of the remises! relocation of clients! or rece tion of ersons from another facility. This manual is designed to deal %ith all of these situations and to rovide total resources to alleviate the effects of a"normal events. =t is im erative that all ersonnel are familiar %ith the contents of the emergency rocedures manual and su ort its rovisions.

The Director of Programs %ill revie% and u date the Emergency Procedures Manual as necessary! or at least annually. The -esidential Managers %ill advise the Director of Programs of any suggested changes to "e made to evacuation rocedures and floor lans. The Director of Programs %ill ensure that all co ies of the Emergency Procedures Manual are u dated to accurately reflect current ractices.

E,er/en*y Pr!*edures Pur ose The ur ose of these rocedures is to state the action to "e follo%ed in any emergency %hich may affect the facility. 1";ectives The o";ectives are< a: To ensure the safety and %ell@"eing of the clients and staff in the event of< @ @ @ ": an evacuation of the facility! a relocation to another facility due to a rolonged evacuation! or a situation demanding isolation or survival o erations.

During an emergency! the $hift Manager has the res onsi"ility for commanding and controlling emergency o erations until relieved of the res onsi"ility through the arrival of the Executive Director or the 9dministrator 1n@Call. 9ny staff mem"er can im lement a rocedure %ith res ect to the house or area for %hich they have res onsi"ility.

Mag ?oc>s have also "een installed on the doors "et%een houses in the u stairs hall%ays. 9 fo" is reAuired to enter and exit all locations %ith a mag loc>. The fo"s are activated at the time they are distri"uted to a staff mem"er. The mag loc>s! alarms and fo"s are an im ortant tool to assist staff in maintaining the safety of clients. 9s such! it is vital that a rocess "e follo%ed in the event of a shut do%n of the system or the loss of a fo". ?oss of a /o"< @ 4otify the $hift Manager immediately if a fo" is lost or mis laced. @ The $hift Manager %ill deactivate the fo" immediately at the com uter in the Executive 9ssistant5s office. Mag ?oc> $ystem shut do%n< Po%er failures! maintenance! /ire &atch! "attery "ac>@u failureBre lacement! o%er surges! fires and other emergencies can cause a system failure of the mag loc>s and alarms. Please note! %hen the mag loc>s are do%n! the alarms are also do%n. @ @ )e extra vigilant. Monitor all clients very carefully. 4ever state aloud that the system is shut do%n. This informs the clients it is meant to rotect that there is a %indo% of o ortunity. Either "y tele hone or %al>ie tal>ie! state clearly to the $hift Manager that there is a EC!de E'evenF in your area! state the exact location of your area. The $hift Manager %ill immediately reAuest that all areas chec> for a EC!de E'evenF and ascertain %hich areas need to "e reset. $taff in each area %ill chec> for the red or green light on the "ox ;ust "elo% the mag loc> system control "ox in each staff office. Call the $hift Manager %ith the results 8a green light indicates the system is active! red that it is shut do%n:. The $hift Manager %ill arrange to reset the Mag ?oc> $ystem as soon as the cause of the shut do%n has "een corrected. Each manager has a mag loc> reset >ey. The Mag ?oc> $ystem %ill "e reset first in areas %here the clients are most li>ely to leave the area. &hen the mag loc>s and alarms are reset an 9larm Chec> ,us# "e done to ensure the system is u and %or>ing correctly. The Mag ?oc> $ystem in each house has a three hour "attery "ac>@u . &hen an alarm sounds in the house office! the "attery needs to "e re laced. Please call the $hift Manager immediately to have this arranged.

The Mag ?oc>s %ill need to "e reset after the "attery is re laced. The "attery "ac>@u does not maintain the alarms and mag loc>s during an emergency or o%er failure.
