AK Performing Arts Presents Seussical March 20th 22nd 7:00 pm AK Auditorium


Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students.

Important Reminders: Morning Tutoring Mr. Lowry will be checking to see if students have passes to attend your tutoring sessions. If their agendas are not signed by their teacher or they do not have printed documentation confirming their tutoring, they will not be allowed to attend. Text messages will no longer be accepted! We have had too many students in the building and it is starting to cause a security concern. Thank you for your help in this matter. Clear Water Bottles Students are only allowed to have a clear water bottle with them while on campus. Clear liquid only!!! Travel mugs, coffee mugs and any outside food vendor cups are not allowed. Please help us enforce this policy!

Attention Juniors & Seniors The Prom is coming up very soon and Men's Warehouse in the Promenade is here to help you out with renting and finding the perfect tuxedo for you! Once again this year, the Mens Warehouse is partnered up with our PTSO to donate $5 for every tuxedo rented through them. Go check out the latest styles and help support your PTSO. Any questions call the store at 704-844-2044.

Health Room Needs The health room is need of crackers, juice boxes and small water bottles. Please support our wonderful nurse, Joan McDonald and donate these much needed supplies. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

AP Exams CMS is paying the AP Exam fee for all students who are enrolled in an AP course here at Ardrey Kell. These exams are required by the district, therefore all students enrolled in an AP course will be taking an AP exam. If you have any questions, please contact our testing Coordinator, Kristina Morgan, at kristina.morgan@cms.k12.nc.us.

Attention Juniors: The membership process for National Honor Society has begun. Activity forms for National Honor Society are due to Ms. Young or Mr. George no later than Friday, March 28 at 3:00. Well, come to the 4th Annual Community Health Fair at Ardrey Kell High School (Mall Area) on April 3rd from 5-7pm. We will have approximately 45-50 Health and Wellness Organizations ranging from fitness, summer job opportunities for teens, to the benefits of Chiropractic and Massage Therapy along with Jasons Deli, Smoothie King, Subway and TCBY to name a few. Tell your friends, neighbors and bring the entire family! Ardrey Kell to Shine Internationally! Ardrey Kell High School was chosen to take part in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Test for Schools testing for 2013-2014. Eighty-five students were invited to partake in this opportunity on March 31st to show the world just how incredible AK is!

The OECD Test for Schools (based on PISA) is a school-level assessment based on the internationally recognized program for International Student Assessment (PISA). The OECD Test for Schools will provide school-level results that can be benchmarked against other participating schools across the country and internationally, and allow for appropriate comparisons with international results from the 2009 PISA assessment. This test aims to provide a school-level measure of students performance in the higher-order skills in reading, mathematical, and scientific literacy necessary for their future success and ability to compete in a global economy. Way to go AK!!!!!!

Graduation Rehearsal
Wednesday, June 4th 5:30 7:00 PM Bojangles Coliseum Graduation Rehearsal is REQUIRED of all seniors who plan to participate in the Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, June 14th at 12:30 PM.

Senior Cap and Gown Orders


Over 120 seniors have NOT ordered their Caps and Gowns for graduation. If you have NOT ordered you need to go to the Herff Jones website at www.hjgraduation.com and order ASAP. Caps and Gowns are being delivered in May.

SENIORS participating in the Knights In Action Program


Senior hours are due no later than 3:00 PM on April 4th. Senior hours submitted after April 4th will NOT be accepted for any reason. All other students can continue earning their hours through the summer.

The AK Athletic Booster Club 8th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser Monday, April 21st at Providence Country Club

If you are interested in taking a North Carolina Virtual Public School course for the 2014-15 school year, applications can be picked up from Mrs. Rogers in Student Services during your lunch or after school. These are courses we do NOT offer at Ardrey Kell and are taken from home, not during the school day. STUDENT SERVICES The Ardrey Kell PTSO is offering ten $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors who will be furthering their education at either a two year or four year program. A minimum GPA of 2.5 (un-weighted) is required, and applications are now available in Student Services. AKABC will award Eight (8) $1000 Scholarships to Eligible AK Senior StudentAthletes!
The Ardrey Kell Athletic Booster Club is proud to announce that they have doubled the number of $1000 scholarships that they will offer to eligible senior student-athletes in 2013-2014! A total of eight (8) $1000 scholarships will be awarded: four (4) $1000 scholarships recognizing excellence in athletics and academics, and another four (4) $1000 scholarships recognizing outstanding leadership and athletics. These awards will assist selected graduating AK student-athletes in paying to attend 2-year or 4-year colleges in the fall. Eligible candidates will have earned at least a total of 2 varsity letters prior to graduation and meet minimum GPA requirements. Citizenship, sportsmanship, and financial need will also be considered for both types of scholarships. For additional details and detailed eligibility criteria, senior student-athletes are encouraged to get an application from their coaches or Student Services. Check it out and apply now! All applications must be completed and submitted to Student Services by Monday, April 23, 2014. Winners will be announced during Senior Night on May 22, 2014. College Admission Information Night A College Information Admission Night will be held on Thursday, March 27th at 6 pm in the Auditorium. This is a great opportunity for juniors to learn and prepare for the college application process. A College Admission Representative will discuss the college search and application process. An Independent College Counselor will address essay writing for the

college application. Please contact Ms. Sartwell in Student Services if you have any questions. Attention Seniors: The State Employees Credit Union People Helping People Scholarship is awarded to one senior at AK each year. This scholarship is worth $10,000, and applicants must plan to attend a UNC System school. The recipient must demonstrate leadership, excellence of character, integrity and community involvement. Please stop by Student Service to pick up an application. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 28th.

AK SPORTS

We have been MOVING athletic games around due to the great spring weather we are experiencing in Charlotte this spring, so please keep up with us as we juggle our outside athletic events! Want you to welcome Tashanna Livingston, my new Sports Management Intern from Johnson & Wales University. Congrats to AK WSWIM team member Lauren Wallace (AK Junior) as she was part of the 800 Freestyle relay that broke the national age group record for 15-16 year old girls. Sophomores Henry Ryan and Annalise Heyward have been selected to attend the NCHSAA Leadership Conference next Saturday in Greensboro. This event gathers high school student-athletes for an informative workshop to help develop leaders in athletics. Last year, Anna Small and Josh German were our invitees. Lets see whats going on at the Castle..keep your schedules in pencil for this month! ;) AK V WSOC beat Harding, and had a tough match with Providence last Friday, but are playing great team soccer. We beat Berry last night in both JV and V and are 5-1 (2-1) so far this season. We face SoMeck 8 Conference foe Catholic on Friday here. Our AK JV WSOC team is 3-2 with a win over Cuthbertson and Berry last night. Congrats and good luck to Coach Monte and teams! AK V Baseball was defeated by Providence 5-3 last Friday. It was a great game, and we will see them again. We are now 7-1 (4-1) with a win over Berry last night 15-5. We play Cuthbertson Thurs and Catholic Friday-all home games! Our AK JV BB was defeated by Providence in an added game last week, but defeated them last night in another added JV game to help fill the schedule. We are 3-4 in this early season. Congrats and good luck to Coach Bagwell and staff and teams!! Center field spectators-please make sure you buy a game ticket and only park in our AK parking lot! We cannot park in the neighborhood due to congested road and our Westin Glen neighbors need their spaces. AK V Softball swept Providence last Friday. We beat Providence in five innings, and defeated Berry last night to up our record to 6 - 1 (5-1 conf) on the season. We were led by senior Jessey Haasl as she belted two home runs and had 7 RBI's in the Providence game. Additionally, sophomore Haley Ewert was 3 for 4 and Junior pitcher Sterling Strickland was 2 for 3. 4-1 (2-0). Our AK JV SB beat Providence 9 - 6 in the opening game to improve to 3 - 1 on the season. Next action is Friday vs. Catholic (JVs here vs. Butler at 4pm)! Good luck to Coach Bove and staff and teams this year. AK MGOLF match with Olympic March 12th at PCC was won by AK. We are 2-0 going into this weekends tourney at Carolina Trace in Sanford. AK MTEN extended their winning streak to 6-0 by defeating West Meck 9-0 and Marvin Ridge last night in a close 5-4 victory. Outstanding play by our team as we gave up only one game in the match with West Meck, and came through to win both doubles matches to seal the victory. We play at Harding Thursday. AK W Track took 3rd overall out of 13 teams behind 1st place efforts of Deja McCain, Chase Muhammad, Sydney Williams, Bria Mercer, Sydney Foreman, Kiley Aymar, Bailey Ondrof, Katie Wilder, Sydney Blue, Morgan Bodenarian, Lily Witzel, Darah Dewalt, Deja McCain, and Rachel Durant . Congrats and good luck to Coach Zelk, Coach King, Coach Lockrem and Coach Varner and teams! AK M Track placed 3rd overall out of 13 teams this past weekend at the Trojan Relays at Northwestern High school this past Saturday. We had outstanding performances by the pole vaulting team of Sage Murphy and Graham Prevette. We were also led by the sprint team of JaVon Hopkins, Elijah Scott, Josh German, Merrick Haston, Dillon Goode, Josh Cooper, and Justin Cooper along with strong performances by the distance squad of Dyllan Moss, Ian Barclay, Zack Boyd, Daniel Petronis, Joe Eudy, and Ryan Kendall. Our shuttle hurdle crew of Daniel Curulla, Dennis Hayes, Stefano Guillen, and Aaron Hunt took second overall. A special congratulations to Sage Murphy for breaking his own school record in the pole vault by clearing 14 feet and 3 inches. Next action for both teams is Wednesday at Providence and Saturday at Dutch Fork Invite. Good luck Coach Zelk and teams! AK V MLAX had a 17-5 win over Watauga Saturday moved the Knights to 4-1. Senior captain Peyton Harris puts\ up 4 goals and 2 assists in the win. Thursday night, we trailed rival South Meck 2-0 early before scoring 12 unanswered goals on its way to a 13-7 victory. We were led by senior captain Dylan Goyer with 3 goals and 3 assists and Jonathan McDaid with 3 goals and 2 assists. Freshman Charlie Elliott made 10 saves in the cage. We started the week with a 16-3 win over St. Stephen's. Ryan Elliott led us to the win with 4 goals and 2 assists. AK JV MLAX is 1-1-1 with a 5-5 tie against Cuthbertson on Thursday. Lex Volker paced the Knights with 4 goals. We play Porter Ridge here Thursday for both a JV and Varsity match. Good luck to Coaches Price and Gowin and teams! AK V WLAX is still undefeated at 5-0 as we beat South Meck and Porter Ridge this week. In the last two games we have had goals from every offensive player (14 different scorers in each game). Maeve Healy is currently our leading scorer . We play #2 ranked Catholic next Wednesday in both JV and V matches. Our AK JV WLAX have been idle due to other teams not fielding a JV squad, are 0-2, but face Catholic next week. Good luck to Coach Hook and Coach Young and teams!! Whos on deck?
