HANDS-ON DESCRIPTIoN
The hands-on workshop covers facial analysis, computerized cephalometric treatment planning, articulator model surgery, and virtual model surgery. A patient from Dr. Arnetts practice is studied. Each student will complete a facial analysis which will direct cephalometric treatment planning. Indicated cephalometric changes will then be used to guide articulated model surgery and virtual model surgery. Students work will be compared to the patients actual treatment plan and surgery.

Dr. Arnett graduated with honors from the University of Southern California Dental School in 1972 and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of California at Los Angeles. He practiced comprehensive oral surgery until 1985 when he limited his practice strictly to facial reconstruction and research. As a lecturer and clinical instructor, Dr. Arnett trains both orthodontic and surgical residents. He is currently on staff as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at Loma Linda University; a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Southern California; a Senior Lecturer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of California at Los Angeles; a Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; and a visiting professor at the Universidad del Desarrollo School of Dentistry in Santiago, Chile. Dr. Arnett is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has been honored as a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. Recognized for his national and international lectures and articles, Dr. Arnett is considered to be pre-eminent in the field of orthognathic surgery. His two-part paper, Facial Keys to Orthodontic Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, received the prestigious B.F. and Helen E. Dewel Clinical Orthodontic Award for paper of the year by the American Association of Orthodontists. He co-authored a book with Dr. Richard McLaughlin titled Facial and Dental Planning for Orthodontists and Oral Surgeons.

M I C H A E L J . G U N S o N , DDS , MD
Dr. Michael J. Gunson graduated from UCLA Dental School and continued on to receive his Medical Degree and Specialty Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from UCLA. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Gunson was invited to partner with Dr. G. William Arnett at the Center for Corrective Jaw Surgery in Santa Barbara, California. Since that time, his practice has been limited to facial reconstructive surgery, surgical correction of sleep apnea and research. Dr. Gunson has lectured and published research on the surgical correction of OSA, the three dimensional airway changes associated with surgical correction, the medical treatment of mandibular condylar resorption, and the quantification of beauty. Specializing in orthognathic surgery and research has enabled Drs. Gunson and Arnett to examine approximately 10,000 patients with cosmetic, functional, and OSA conditions. As a result, they have studied and improved their results while sharing information through publications and lectures.
