SCCCD Chancellor Blue coup dismissal is too upsetting for African-American leaders
Diverse citizens are using press conference to address undue process concerns and a need for immediate action (FRESNO, CALIF) Since the early

considered forced retirement of State Center Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Deborah Blue, community leaders and concerned citizens are coming together to make a public statement and request to the SCCCD Board of Trustees in regards to the undue process of Blues dismissal/discipline, as cited in several spontaneous special meeting sessions. Dr. Blue, the first African-American female chancellor who has held her position since 2010 and has had a record of success with the district, was to serve as chancellor emeritus until June 30, 2015, according to her newly amended employment agreement birthed out of a combination of a March 1st special meeting held on a Saturday at 8:00 AM, followed by a March 4th special meeting held three days later. However, in a recent special meeting held March 17th at 5:30PM, it was deemed that former SCCCD chancellor who, Dr. Bill Stewart, was to become the deputy chancellor effective March 18th, thus amending Dr. Blues previously amended employment agreement. Although the special meeting only stated one agenda item for closed session, public employee discipline/dismissal/release, citizens who attended were then confused with the new hire of Dr. Stewart as interim deputy chancellor, which was not listed on the special meeting agenda, nor was it announced publicly anywhere else. At this same meeting, community members complained that the doors were locked before and after the open session of the special meeting, where people were not able to ask questions or address the SCCCD Board of Trustees. With the myriad of confusion in regards to the stipulations and suggestions as to why Dr. Blue was forced into early retirement, African-American community leaders and diverse citizens are speaking out about some of these concerns during a community press conference in front of the SCCCD office this afternoon: suggested Brown Act violations, lack of clarity in regards to the process of Dr. Blues force of early retirement as chancellor, and abuse of power by a few SCCCD Board of Trustees.

Community leaders intend to eventually educate the community of the proper process to prevent future African-American candidates or district employees in general, from being subjected to future abuses and manipulations, as what was felt was done to Dr. Blue. Who: Community leaders and concerned citizens What: Press conference of concern/actions steps in regards to undue process of the SCCCD Board of Directors Where: State Center Community College District Office sidewalk; 1525 East Weldon Ave., Fresno, CA 93704 (Next to Fresno City college) When: Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at 12:15 PM PST

Community concerns to be addressed with the SCCCD Board of Trustees and public:
In a March 6, 2014 Fresno Bee article, Blue to get pay, benefits for year, it stated, Her amended contract shows shell officially retire on June 30, 2015. But Blue will wrap up her regular day-to-day work this summer, when shell resign as chancellor and take on the role of chancellor emeritus for a year. Therefore, we assumed based on this statement, she will serve as chancellor of the district June 30, 2014. Q1: What is the current status of Dr. Blues role in the operations of the District? Q2: As Chancellor until June 30, 2014, does she (Dr. Blue) have full chancellor responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the district? In a Fresno Bee article dated March 18, 2014, Dr. Bill Stewart was appointed deputy chancellor until June 30, 2014, and then he will assume the role of interim chancellor effective July 1, 2014. We believe that a review of the districts current organizational structure, the position of deputy chancellor does not exist. We have heard from various sources that Dr. Stewart is functioning as a chancellor and has full responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the SCCCD. Based on what has been released to the public, Dr. Blue is chancellor of the district until June 30, 2014. Q3: Why does the Board of Trustees need a second person (Dr. Bill Stewart) to run the day-to-day operations of the district until June 30, 2014? Q4: What is the cost of Dr. Bill Stewarts agreement (contract) with the District from March 18th to June 30, 2014? Q5: How many classes for students can the districts colleges offer by using the funds being paid to Dr. Stewart to serve as a second chancellor from March 18 to June 30, 2014? Q6: Has Dr. Blues role in her amended contract referenced in the Fresno Bee article of March 6, 2014 Blue to get pay, benefits for year changed since the appointment of Dr. Stewart? Q7: Who is the person (Dr. Blue or Dr. Stewart) who is the official SCCCD chancellor of the district and has full responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the district until June 30, 2014? The public administrators, faculty, staff and students of the State Center Community College District have a right to know and have these and many more questions answered!
