Students learn how to organize projects through practice on abstract, proposal, and budget and timeline development among other skill-building activities. Students participate in twenty hours of pre-work through interactive Web-based activities and online interaction with participants and NASA engineers. Those who successfully complete the pre-work stage have their work competitively analyzed against other students from across the country. The top 49 students in the country are invited to an on-site experience at NASA Space Flight Center where they participate in exploration team projects, working with engineers, scientists, and/or astronaut briefings.
