How has the nominee given you resources to be a successful student and leader, as well as personally develop? (500 words maximum) I have had the pleasure of being one of Dr. Myerss students in his EDAS 4090 class last fall. The class was titled Organization and Administration of Education in American Society, which focused on how schools in America were structured and how teachers were hired and fired within the school district. It was a very practical course, in which preservice teachers learned how to create resumes, refine interview skills, learn about the structure of schools and a school district, and other items that which would be particularly important for their future career. I crafted my first real resume in his class, which would only help me to refine my college experience into a viable document that I could pass onto potential employers. I practiced being interviewed by others who could comment on my facial expressions and posture, which one is not aware of unless they are told about their interview skills. I have since refined my skills and become more proficient at interviewing. Dr. Myers also helped us to develop our educational philosophy, which is extremely important in our job search. Nearly every job interview will ask the question What is your philosophy of education, so it is important to have a distinctly defined philosophy of education. After my experience with Dr. Myers in the fall, I chose to also take an Honors seminar with him, titled School Choice. This semester, the goal of the seminar is to write a research paper on school choice, defining what it means, and examining the different options available to students and parents within the American education system. It has been an eye-opening experience personally and professionally, as Dr. Myers allowed many guest

speakers from the different types of schooling to come in and discuss why they have chosen to provide their children with that educational experience or why they work for that institution. This has helped me to grow both personally professionally, as I can learn about the options in which I can choose to enroll my children in as well as the different types of choices that parents make to educate their children, as well as the different types of jobs available within the educational sector. 2.) How has the nominee impacted you and the students you know both inside and outside of the classroom? (500 words maximum) As stated previously, Dr. Myerss class has allowed me to develop several important skills that will help me in my future as an educator, including interviewing and resume writing, as well as refining my communication and presentation skills. All of these are essential to the execution of a teachers responsibilities to their students and their school district. This has impacted me inside and outside the classroom as these were related to the assignments that I had to complete in order to pass the class and continue in receiving my degree and teaching license. His stories from his 30-year career in education and him coordinating a visit from the Dean of college of Education to speak to our class were another influential portion of the class, as it gave us real evidence as to what we might expect while we are out in the field as both pre-service teachers and proficient professionals. Many resources that Dr. Myers included while we were in his class, with a lifetime guarantee of critiquing your resume, have been helpful for me in my professional experiences as well as my college experience. Many of the tips and tricks that Ive acquired from being in Dr. Myerss class has helped m ein acquiring many different opportunities, including scholarships and awards. Dr. Myers has also impacted me outside of the class. As mentioned previously, he has helped to develop my resume and interviewing skills, which impact nearly everything that I am currently involved in on campus and even my future. Many of the scholarships and awards that I apply for ask for a resume. Thanks to Dr. Myerss class, I can utilize my resume in many different aspects, which I can update and edit to reflect those scholarship and award applications. Dr. Myers also chairs the Scholarship committee for the college, which awards thousands of dollars to EDHD students. I was fortunate enough to be

awarded a $400 scholarship to continue to fund my education at BGSU and help me to reach my goal of obtaining a teachers license and a BGSU degree. 3.) Please give an overall statement about the nominee that could best describe why he/she is deserving of the award. (500 words maximum) When talking about Dr. Myers to other students and teachers, I have heard nothing but good things about him. His positive attitude and interesting stories have made class so enjoyable. Ive learned so much knowledge about teaching and about professionalism from Dr. Myers, including how to participate in the politics that exist within the education system. I am thankful for the opportunity for being able to learn from Dr. Myers, and will certainly benefit from this experience, which is why I am writing this nomination for Dr. Eric Myers for the NRHH Enlightening Educator award.
