Section 11.1
Aim 03/21/14
How do we find the measures of interior and exterior angles of polygons? How do we use measures of angles of polygons to solve problems? Check homework from yesterday. Project due Monday!
Intro
Draw examples of 3-sided, 4-sided, 5sided, and 6-sided convex polygons. In each polygon, draw all the diagonals from one vertex. Notice that this divides each polygon into triangular regions.
Copy and complete the table below. What is the pattern in the sum of the measures of the interior angles of any convex n-gon?
The sum of the measures of the interior angles of a convex n-gon is (n-2)180.
Example 1
108+146+101+113+153+x=720
621 + x = 720 x = 99 The measure of the 6th interior angle is 99!
x 153 108 146 101 113

Example 2
The measure of each interior angle of a regular polygon is 140. How many sides does the polygon have?
Checkpoint 2
The measure of each interior angle of a regular polygon is 165. How many sides does the polygon have? (n 2) 180
n 165
180(n 2) 165n
15n 360
n 24
The polygon has 24 sides.
The sum of the measures of the exterior angles of a convex polygon, one angle at each vertex, is 360.

Summarizer
Explain in words how to find the measure of each interior angle and each exterior angle in a regular polygon.
Homework
Complete homework/classwork. Ms. Boyd will come around and check. REMEMBER: Stay in your seat, stay on task, put phones and headphones away. Exit Quiz at the end of the period.
