Sri Kungumavalli sametha Thanthondreeswarar temple(uraiyur)

Long time ago, Uraiyur was ruled by Raja Sooravaditha Sozhan who married a Nagakanni named Gandhimathi after seeking permission from Lord Indra and Nagarja.Gandhimathi was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. She would visit Thayumanaswamy in Tiruchirarmalai (Malaikottai) everyday.She will travel to the temple everyday by walk through Sage Saramamunivars Garden and worship the lord. Days passed by and she became pregnant. She still travelled by walk to the temple to pray.One day, she was heavily pregnant and was unable to walk due to fatigue and heat.She was so distressed that she would not be able to see the Lord that day that she cried to herself. Thayumanaswamy answered to her prayers and gave darshan to her. He appeared before her as he was in tiruchirar malai .Hence the name Thanthondreeswarar. He blessed her and told her till her delivery she can pray to him there .Thus, the temple came in to existence.Here , the Ambal is Sri Kungumavalli(valaikappu amman).Keeping up with the history and in remembrance of Gandhimathi ,Valaikappu function is conducted to ambal during Thai masam. Lakhs of bangles adorn as Garland around ambal. Shes also decorated with ponkappu, vellikappu and vepillaikappu . The bangles are given as prasadam to devotees seeking a child and pregnantwomen to ensure a healthy delivery .According to Archaelogist Tiru. S.R. Balasubramanian this temple is dated back to early chozha period. This temple was built by Aditha chozhan who was also called as Rajakesari varma. Other sannidhis in the temple are for Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar, Kali and Navagrahas,, Ganesha and Muruga. Swarna Akarshana Bhairavar is the God who can bless you with gold and other material wealth. His Yantra emits the divine energy that would bless you with money, gold and other riches. It is the best divine remedy to heal your financial problems in life. The word Swarna means Gold. Upon worshipping Swarna Akarshana Bhairava you will be blessed with heaps of gold and money. Abhishekam, Homam and Poojas are performed for Bhairavar on Ashtami (8th day from new moon or full moon day) . ThillaiKali has a sannidhi in this temple. 16 foot tall Thillai Kali, blesses all devotees . With her supreme power she provides relief from problems created due to pilli, soonyam, yeval and Drishti.On New moon day, Vara Milagai ( Red Chilly ) deepam is offered to Kali. Hundreds of devotess throng the temple on New Moon day to seek kalis blessing. Miracles happen when Vara Milagai deepam is offered to Kali.

Navagrahas yet another speciality in this temple is navagrahas are with their consorts .They are called Sakthi Sametha Navagrahas.Praying to the navagrahas when they are with their consorts is considered to bring immediate positive influence and prosperity to the devotees.

Utsavams and pujas are conducted throughout the year. Specially Puthrakamestiyagam is done during chittirai masam. Lots of couples who has participated in this homam has been blessed with a child.Also, chandihomam is conducted on magam nakshtarma day during thai masam to seek Godesses Pratyangara devis blessing.Along with these other pujas conducted are maha sivaratri puja, kalyanautsavam for Lord muruga on vaigasi visakam, Ippasi Annabhisekam and karthigai Somavaaram .
