Chapter 5- by Matthew Upton Vocab: tape-reel used in very new machines 1 tape- a reel used in slightly newer machines

s 2 tape- a reel used for older machines Artifacts-tiny, rectangular distortions that appear on the screen when a digital signal is corrupted Beta SX-like the normal betacam, but uses MPEG files Betacam-a broadcast quality tape Betacam SP- a better version of the normal Betacam Control track- a series of pulses recorded onto a tape Deck- another name for a recorder/player Digital betacam- like a betacam SP but even higher quality Digital S- a tape, what most news team cameras use DVR- a device that records by the command of a signal Dropout- a tiny white dot on a television screen Dubbing- the process of copying a video recording DVCam- a 6mm tape that is mainly used in Sony items.

DVCPRO- a 6mm metal tape, used in most recording cameras today DVCPRO50-like the normal, only higher quality DVCPRO100 like the normal, but has the highest quality DVD-a disc that can store items in it Head-a lead in recorded at the beginning of every take Helical scan- the pattern that a video signal is placed Input-a port or connection in a device, which things come out of Mini-DV-a metal evaporated tape Monitor a television set that can receive only audio and video signals Output-a port or connection on a device, which things go into P2-a static memory card, mainly made for Panasonic items Quad- a very large, older video tape recorder Receiver-a television that can only receive RF signals RF- the radio frequency of the audio, and video RF converter- a small module that combines video and audio

Super VHS- like a normal VHS, but is larger, and has more time in it Tail- a 10 second lead out at the end of a recording Test record-using a video recorder to record a video and sound Tracking control-a knob on a VCR that is used to adjust the speed of the tape that is playing VHS- a type of tape that allowed you to record things on it VHS-C- like a normal VHS, but is shorter, and has less time on it Video heads- The components in a VCR that record shows Video noise- the white dots seen on a television screen VTR interchange-the ability to record something on one item, and play it on another Y/C singnal-the type of signal placed in a VHS-C Questions: ~What are the possible causes of white spots? - dirty video heads ~what are some causes of dirty video heads? - Not occasionally cleaning them, putting dirty tapes into it, etc. ~list the appropriate materials to clean video heads- a video head cleaning kit

~what is an upwardly compatible videotape? It is a videotape, which is compatible with about 95% of normal video players ~how is the control track related to the playback speed of a videotape? If the video is too fast, you can slow it down ~what is the purpose of a test record? to see if your camera will even record correctly ~how do monitors, receivers, and monitor/receivers differ from each other? monitors can only receive pure audio/video waves, receivers can only receive both audio/and video waves if there put together, and monitor/receiver TVs can receive both. ~What is the function of a RF converter? To convert audio/and video together, so it can be played in a receiver type TV OutlineThis chapter has taught me all about the different types of tapes, recorders, and TVs and how to work them to their best abilities. Is also taught me about how there are different waves of audio, and video, along with what can convert them into those versions. And this also taught me how to fix older TVs and how to work some of the equipment that they use in them. It also taught me about the many different formats of recordings, and video tapes.
