N.G.Os ? A Brief
A non-governmental organization (NGO, also often referred to as "civil society organization" or CSO) is a not-for-profit group, principally independent from government, which is organized on a local, national or international level to address issues in support of the public good. Taskoriented and made up of people with a common interest, NGOs perform a variety of services and humanitarian functions, bring public concerns to governments, monitor policy and programme implementation, and encourage participation of civil society stakeholders at the community level. Some are organized around specific issues, such as human rights.

Numerous local, regional and international NGOs have played an essential role in national rule of law reform processes and at the global and international level. NGOs often serve as early warning mechanisms and help monitor and implement international agreements. Others group professionals or other NGOs in specialized fields or professions into associations, networks or commissions with a view to exchanging knowledge and good practices, and facilitating the provision of rule of law assistance. The number of national and local NGOs worldwide that engage in such rule of law activities is vast.

Significance of NGOs in a society

According to a social worker, Mr. Stephen Heintz, President of Rockefeller Brothers Fund, an international philanthropic organization in New York City run by Rockefeller family, NGOs have three primary roles in society: 1. Provide opportunity for the self organization of society. 2. Preserve a unique and essential space between the forprofit sector and government. 3. Enable experimentation and social change. NGOs give the people a chance to volunteer themselves through the organization and work together to promote social values. Also, the NGOs can build creative and productive partnerships across the three sectors i.e. private, public and government sectors that draw on the unique strengths of each to advance the common good.

Formation Procedure to register an NGO in India

The first step is to lay down the objectives and mission and vision that the NGO wants to deliver. The next step is to form the governing body that will be involved in the planning, decision making, controlling of the NGO. Every NGO in India is required to document a trust deed/Memorandum of understandings/Byelaws that contains the name and address of the NGO, mission and objectives, details of governing body members, human resource and staffing info., rules and regulations, administrative laws and procedure. CANDLE LIGHT MARCH

The march was held at 10 no stop, said that the incident that took place in Delhi, which has sparked nationwide outrage, is an eye-opener to how vulnerable women really are even in big cities. The idea of the march was two-fold, adding, While we wanted to condemn the attack on the girl and also showcase our support, we also wanted to tell men about how traumatising the entire experience is for women and to tell women how to defend themselves better. The march was joined by around 150 people. we and our friends, mostly from our schools and colleges, distributed pamphlets and displayed placards and banners that informed women about the manner in which they could protect themselves. We have decided to call the 23-year-old rape victim Damini, because of her fighting spirit that she has not given up in the wake of the odds against her. We had people from as young as 13-year-olds to older people who came and not just walked with us, and lit candles to support us. The important part of the march, for us, was to tell everyone about this very real problem and how it can be prevented.

A MARCH TO JUSTICE

My learning and my experience from this project work and the organization

What I learned from the organization and from this project work is more caused to social responsibility, what we normal people can contribute to the society, how and in what ways. These NGOs are a gateway or route to us through which we can help the needy people. But then what is the first step? That is, not to see these people with pity full eyes but we should make them aware of these special organizations working in these directions or we can take some initiative on our level. This project work have been a platform for me to go out in the real world and have some real experience with interacting with people and understand the practical subject of a real work place.
