Attendees will check in, receive the IBMC info packet and mingle with other attendees.

IBMC Thought Leader Conference


9:30-10:00 AM Welcome and Orientation
Attendees will receive a welcome and orientation about the conference and competition.

10:00-10:55 AM Training with Brant Cooper


Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a training led by Brant Cooper, Founder of
Moves the Needle and author of the NYT Bestselling Book The Lean Entrepreneur.

11:00-11:55 AM Training with David Bland


Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a training led by David Bland, Co-Founder and
CEO of Precoil.

12:00-12:30 PM Lunch

12:30-2:00 PM Campus Tour


Attendees will have the opportunity to experience a hands-on tour of BYU’s unique campus.

2:00-3:45 PM Workshop with David Binetti


Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop led by David Binetti, Management
Consultant and creator of the Innovation Options Framework.

4:00-5:45 PM Workshop with Ash Maurya


Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop led by Ash Maurya, author of the
Wall Street Journal bestselling book Running Lean and creator of the Lean Canvas.

6:00-7:00 PM Dinner

8:30-9:00 AM Judge Training and Orientation


Judges will receive training and orientation.

9:10-11:30 AM First Round


Teams will be divided into 4 rooms and present for 10 minutes to a panel of judges with up to 3
minutes of Q&A. Teams are encouraged to watch the presentations of other teams in their room

11:30-12:00 PM Break and Judge Deliberation

12:00-1:00 PM Lunch and Quarterfinal Results

1:00-3:00 PM Challenge Round/ Semifinal Round Preparation


All teams that didn't advance to the Semifinal Round will be divided into 3 rooms and present
for 10 minutes with up to 3 minutes of Q&A. 4 teams will advance to compete in the Semifinal
Round. The semifinalist teams will take this time to prepare for the Semifinal Round while the 4
teams from the Challenge Round will present last in the Semifinal Round so they have time to
prepare.

3:00-4:30 PM Semifinal Round


Teams will be divided into 4 rooms and present for 10 minutes to a panel of judges with up to 5
minutes of Q&A. Teams are encouraged to watch the presentations of other teams in their room

4:30-5:00 PM Break and Judge Deliberation

5:00-6:30 PM Dinner, Keynote Speaker and Semifinal Results


Attendees will eat dinner, hear from our keynote speaker (Karmel Larson, CEO and Founder of
Momni) and the results of the Semifinal Round will be announced.

6:45-8:45 PM Final Event & Awards Ceremony


The finalists will compete for the title of “Global Champion” and the winner will take home the
IBMC traveling trophy as well as the top cash prize. Teams will present for 10 minutes to our all-
star judging panel with up to 8 minutes of Q&A.

8:45-9:30 PM Post-Finals Networking & Shuttle


Attendees will have a chance to network with one another after the final event is over.

HOTEL

We have reserved a group block of discounted hotel rooms at the P ​ rovo Marriott Hotel & Conference 
Center​ under the name “International Business Model Competition.” The discounted rate is only available 
until 1
​ 1:59 PM MDT ​on​ Tuesday April 30th, 2019, or until the group block is full, whichever comes first. 
Rooms will fill up quickly, so please book as early as possible. You can reserve your rooms ​online​ or by 
calling the toll free Reservations Hotline at​ ​1-800-228-9290 or (801) 377-4700​ ​and asking for the group block 
by name. 
 
Staying at the hotel is valuable as a free shuttle will be provided to/from the hotel and BYU campus 
and their will be opportunities for networking with other competing teams.

Based on the schedule of events, we recommend that you arrive the night of Wednesday, May 8th; however, 
if you would like to arrive earlier, rooms are available in the hotel block from​ Tuesday, May 7th (check-in) 
to Sunday, May 12th (check-out). ​Please note that there are a limited number of rooms within the block 
for Tuesday, May 7th and Saturday, May 11th. 
 
Below are some additional important details regarding the hotel:

1. ​Rooms ​– 75% of the rooms are double queen beds, and the remaining 25% are one king bed plus a sofa 
sleeper.
2. ​WiFi -​ Basic internet is complimentary within our block of reserved rooms.
3. ​Parking​ – If you are renting a vehicle, the hotel’s on-site parking will be complimentary for the duration 
of your reservation​.

TRANSPORTATION

1. Air​– There are two airports near Provo, Utah, where the competition will be held. The primary one is 
the ​Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)​ which is recommended for most teams especially those 
traveling from outside the U.S. The other airport nearby is the ​Provo Municipal Airport (PVU)​ which 
may be an option for those traveling from within the U.S.  
2. Ground​ – We will not be providing chartered ground transportation to/from the airport and the 
Provo Marriott Hotel due to the number of travelers and varying travel times. If you decide to fly into 
the Provo Municipal Airport just contact the hotel as they provide a free shuttle service to/from that 
airport. For the majority of travelers, below are the options (besides car rental or ridesharing) for the 
Salt Lake City International Airport 
a. Express Shuttle​ – Provides door to door service to/from the SLC airport and the Provo 
Marriott Hotel. Their vehicles can hold up to 6 people. We have contracted with them for 
discounted rides. Click on this​ ​link​ for more information. 
b. Rail System​ – Board the TRAX Green Line (Route 704) at the AIRPORT station toward Salt 
Lake City at the NORTH TEMPLE BRIDGE/GUADALUPE station and transfer to the NORTH 
TEMPLE station. Take the ​FrontRunner​ (Route 750) south to the PROVO CENTRAL station. 
Contact the Marriott Hotel and they will pick you up at the PROVO CENTRAL station. To plan 
your trip based on your arrival and departure times use UTA’s T ​ rip Planner​.
