Lesson 1 Children to consider what they already know about the River Thames and consider what they might want to find out more about.

Lesson 3 To consider the impact of pollution on the River Thames

Use sources to find out about pollution images, water samples, video clips, iPad for research Discuss why this is a problem what is the cause and effect? How can we make people aware? Design an awareness campaign through posters/leaflets/letters or any other relevant way to inform the public

I know why it is important to keep the River Thames clean. I can create a project to encourage people to keep the River Thames clean. I can research and discuss with my group about the flooding of the Thames. I can make a news-report on the flooding to present to the class.

Children shown images, what do they know about flooding already? Five questions/issues presented on IWB: Chn choose an area they would like to investigate more. Why is it flooding at the moment? Where on the map is the flooding? Why is it not flooding in London? Is there only flooding on River Thames? Who is trying to help the people effected by flooding? How can people stay safe during the flooding? Five issues at different tables, each draft and practice a news report of this issue (interviews where appropriate) Groups feedback in report style with microphone.
