Applications are invited within 24.10.08 for appointment to the Posts of (i) One Professor
(ii) Two Readers and (iii) Four Lecturers for each of the following subjects :

(a) English (b) Bengali ( c ) Sanskrit (d) Arabic (e) History (f) education and (g)
Mathematics.

Qualification :

For the post of Professor ( Scale : 16,400 – 22,400 /-) :

Recognition as eminent scholar with published work of high quality, active engagement in
research with at least 10 (ten ) years of experience in postgraduate teaching and/or experience
in research at the University / National –level Institutions including experience of guiding
research at Doctoral level.

Reputation as outstanding scholar who has made significant contribution to knowledge.


Other conditions of eligibility are as mentioned in the ‘NOTES’ below.

For the post of Reader (Scale : 12,000 – 18,300 /-) :

(i) Good academic record with a doctoral degree or equivalent published work in the relevant
subject. Candidates who will join from outside the University system, shall posses in addition
to these at least 55% (50% in case of SC/ST/BC) marks or an equivalent of B+ at the Masters
degree in the relevant subject.
(ii) Five years of experience of teaching and / or research excluding the period spent for
obtaining the research degree and some mark in the areas of scholarship as evidenced by
quality of publications, contribution to educational innovation, design of new course
curricula and other conditions of eligibility are as mentioned in the ‘NOTES’ given below.

For the post of Lecturer (Scale : 8,000 – 13,500 /-)

(i) Good academic record with at least 55% (50% in case of SC/ST/BC) marks in the relevant
subject or an equivalent grade of B+ at the Master’s degree in the relevant subject from an
Indian University or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University.
Besides fulfilling the above qualification, the candidates must have cleared the eligibility test
(NET/SET) for Lecturers conducted by the UGC, UGC-CSIR or similar tests accredited by
the UGC. However, the candidates having Ph.D degree in the concerned subject are
exempted from NET/SET.
OTES:
a) A relaxation of 5% will be provided, from 55% to 50% of marks, to the Ph.D degree
holders who have passed their Master’s degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
b) NET/SET shall remain the compulsory requirement for appointment as Lecturer for
those with post-graduate degree. However, the candidates having Ph.D degree in the
concerned subject are exempted from NET/SET.
c) A relaxation of 5% marks at the PG level will be allowed to candidates who have
cleared JRF examination of the UGC / CSIR only prior to 1989.
d) For the post of Professor/Reader, one copy each of reprint of three major publications
will have to be marked as such and submitted along with each set of the application.

Rs.100/- in cash at the University Cash Counter or by sending a self addressed envelope of
25 x 13 cms. affixed with stamp worth Rs.15/- accompanied by a crossed Bank Draft of
similar amount in favour of University of Gour Banga payable at UBI, Netaji Market Branch,

Choice of Selection Committee may not necessarily be confined to those who apply formally.
No application except in prescribed Application Form will be considered.
A person working in Govt. / Semi-Govt./ Public Sector undertaking must apply through
proper channel.
Incomplete application will not be entertained.
University authority will not be responsible for any postal delay.

University Cash Counter or by sending a self -addressed envelope of 25 x 13 cms. affixed

The downloaded filled- in Application Form must be accompanied by requisite fee of
Rs.100/- as Bank Draft payable at UBI, Netaji Market Branch, Malda. drawn in favour of
the “University of Gour Banga”. Filled- in Application Form in 8 (eight) sets with attested
copies of all necessary documents along with two self - addressed unstamped envelope of 25
x 13 cms. size must reach the Office of the Registrar, UNIVERSITYOF GOUR BANGA,
