How to manage Autism spectrum disorder

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a collective term referred for a group of neurobiological disorders displaying varied types and levels of impairments in behaviour, communication, speech and learning skills. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition - Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR) has classified Autism Spectrum Disorder to comprise of five disorders namely Autism, Aspergers disorder, Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS), Rett syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder (CDD). These Disorders can be visualized in children at an early age and are believed to be triggered bydevelopmental genetic anomalies or by certain environmental factors.Genetically, several genes have been associated with the onset of such disorders. However, a clear picture of how it affects, has not been deduced so far. It is assumed that certain defect within the gene(s) responsible for normal neural communication, via the synaptic movement, causes abnormal neural function. As a result of such defects, behavioural abnormalities are observed in such patients. Apart for genetic factors, environment factors have also been presumed to cause autistic behaviour. Such factors include family medical history, exposure to toxins, drugs and pregnancy complications. These factors are assumed to increase the risk of developing ASD by affecting certain gene function that may eventually lead to autistic behaviour. How to diagnose if your child has ASD and what to do next The diagnosis starts from your own house with parents being the first to notice the behavioural impairments in their kids. By observing the behaviour pattern and comparing them with those of an autistic kid, they can easily identify if their child is suffering from one of these disorders or not. Autistic behaviour include repetitive patterns of speech and motion, violent outbreak or obsessive want to learn about a particular thing such as train timetable. Certain kids repetitively stack the ir toys or mumble few words again and again, signs such as these can be taken as a sign of developing this disorder. By understanding these small behaviour patterns, parents can help their kids . Educating themselves about their kids disorder or by seeking professional help form specialised doctors and learning ways to nurture and help them to lead a normal life.

Learning and training yourself about ASD As much as you have identified your kid s symptoms, you need to brace yourself and tech yourself and your kids that constant care and patience will get you through. Follow a speciali st care program and dont refrain from enrolling your kids into autistic schools. Education for autistic kids begins with a qualified teacher and involves teaching through the use of pictures and comic strips. These centres hold motivational workshops for parents, and therapy sessions for both. Motivating and educating the parents is a big step in managing this disorder. Apart from that, behavioural classes teach parents how to train their kids and grow up like everyone else. Since the brain development has been impaired, skills necessary for an everyday living need to be instructed often. Patience, love and care in abundance are their cure.
