REFLECTION TASK B (micro-teaching sessions) The micro-teaching sessions are one of the requirements for our project task

and we are grouped in not more than 3 members in each group. For this task, I worked in pair with Lim Ching Wei. First of all, from my own microteaching session I realized that there are areas that i still need to improve and also my own strengths. One of my strength is to control the class pretty well. Indeed pupils are still making disruptive behaviour during the lesson, however as a teacher we need to stop them right away before their disruptive behaviour become worst and have the tendency to interrupt their friends and even the lesson itself. Therefore, it is important to keep the pupils ready before the lesson starts. As what weve done in our microteaching, we asked the pupils to clear their table and put all the things unrelated with the lesson away. This is to minimize disruption level in class so that pupils can pay attention. Other than that, there are more techniques that teacher can use in order to stop the pupils from making disruptive behaviour in the classroom by suddenly stop to talk and walk to the desk of the misbehaviour student until he or she stop what he or she is doing. Therefore, every teacher need to have the sense of withitness and aware of techniques that can be use in controlling the classroom. Moreover, I realize that the activities that were designed are good and attractive to the pupils. The selection and devise activities for any lesson are very important aspect that should be considered by teachers. One of the elements that we use in our lesson is using song which is related with the lesson. The songs in a way help to attract the pupils attention and introduce them about the lesson. I realize that it is important for the teacher to arouse the pupils attention into the lesson by involving songs or jazz chants.

Besides, in my microteaching I tried to use as simple as possible the instructions that I use to guide pupils to involve in the activities and I managed to do that. Using simple instructions is important in order to have crystal clear understanding from the pupils so that they can follow exactly what the teacher expect them to do and lesson will be meaningful and smooth. However, at some point some of the instructions given were not clear and it causes pauses in the middle of the lesson. I also learnt that when giving instructions to the pupils the teacher should use simple language. The important thing is to make sure that the pupils get what the teachers want them to do. Due to my mistakes, some suggestion had been speak out by my peers and respective lecturer in order to overcome these problems that is to prepare a note comprises the instructions that I am going to give out during the activity. Although I have not run the activity yet, however I need to expect how will the

activity will run during the lesson and prepare the appropriate instruction that I can use beforehand. With that, I will be familiar with the command that I will use later in the lesson and grammatical errors in giving instructions can also be lessen. Other than the problems with giving instructions, I also aware that making use of the time consume during lesson according to lesson plan is crucial. By having such microteaching with my peers is the one of the ways that can make me and other colleague to be familiar with the situation that we will be facing in the future during practicum and I am suppose to run my microteaching accordingly as stated in the lesson plan especially in the time consuming matter regardless who is my audience at that time; my classmates. However, because of my audience is my classmates and their proficiency level is way too good to be the same level to year 2 pupils that I targeted in my lesson plan, the activity run very fast and smooth. Therefore, next time I will be more crucial with this matter and if I really done my lesson earlier than what I had stated in the lesson plan I should have prepare backup plan or extra activities for the pupils to make sure they are left without anything to do and will highly lead to misbehaviour among them. Other than that, I also learnt a lot from my peers as well when they conduct their own microteaching session. They can really engage pupils creatively and effectively during the microteaching. This is because of the suitable fun and enjoyable activities they had selected. Their activities really reflect the aims of KSSR in which pupils are encourage to be engaged and involve in the lesson and fun learning is very advisable. Even I myself enjoy the activities that they run. Other than that, Im aware that my peers really apply the usage of authentic materials in their microteaching in which I found very appropriate. All in all, preparing and conducting the microteaching lesson to a group of my peers is a superb learning experience for me. In addition to planning activities and aligning my lesson with standards, I also have the opportunity to observe my peers style of teaching and receive constructive feedback on my own teaching and lesson. This definitely leaves me with something to reflect on and improve upon my teaching.

Reflection Task A. (Scheme of Work, Lesson plan and Material designing) According to the task 1 assigned to us, we are individually required to prepare a scheme of work comprising one week of lessons referring to the KSSR syllabus and with the scheme of work we are needed to designed a 60minutes lesson plan. For the scheme of work that I have done, I had tabulated them as in my assignment in such way because I need to define the structure of the lessons throughout the week in which it shows clearly the activities that I will bring to the lesson and what resources that I need to prepare beforehand. As for the pupils are those who use English as their second language, their proficiency level should be clearly identified because all of the lessons activities depend on the language level of the pupils. The lesson targets on those average Year 2 pupils. This means, to make the lesson plan realistic and meaningful, it has to adhere to the fact that it is for average Year 2 pupils. First and foremost, while doing some reading and researches on the strategies or methods of teaching English as a second language (ESL) classroom, an article is found stating that the highly suggested way of teaching ESL classroom is the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). According to Rifkin, B. (n.d.)., the CLT is designed to help pupils to achieve certain goals such as understanding the cultural context in which the language is spoken and also allowing them to practice the language skills like reading and speaking parallely. The lesson plan that I had designed was according to the requirement of the selection of activities and teaching materials. The topic that Im going to teach is about Fresh Fruits. It is not deniable that children are interested to catchy songs and fun games. So, for the set induction Ive introduced the Fruit Song. Children likes to be involved and play together with their friends and like to move around in order to develop their psychomotor skill during their development. Moreover, the songs comprise a simple lyrics and rhythm that can easily sing by the pupils. Simple phrases of lyrics could be just right for them. However, in the beginning of the lesson I will ask the pupils to pick out a picture from the shopping bag and they have to write down the name of the fruit that theyve picked. Moreover, in my lesson plan I apply the method of cooperative learning. Cooperative learning comes under the communicative language learning method. In cooperative learning pupils are encouraged to be interactive with their friends. In order to encourage the cooperative learning to take place in my designed activities I had planned in my lesson to divided the pupils into several groups. Therefore, within their respective group they can discuss among them. By implementing this cooperative learning, pupils can automatically have the opportunities to improve their social interaction and interpersonal skills by facing their peers ideas, suggestion and learned to tolerate with each other. Besides, by having

pupils work in groups can help the introvert pupils to have the guts to take part in a smaller groups rather than involving the whole class. During the whole lesson, I also apply the direct method to the pupils. Direct method is a method in which using target language that is the English language to communicate with pupils and amongst pupils. It is advisable to avoid mother tongue language as the medium of instruction. By using this method pupils will be able to use target language spontaneously. At this point, teacher should not be focusing on the pupils accuracy of using target language but the fluency of them in trying to communicate using English language. For my activities I will incorporate a lot of pictures because young learners usually are keen of visual images which will enhance their understanding. I decide to focus on 5 types of local fruits. Along the activity there will be a lot of drilling involved to guide pupils until they can write their own sentences about the fruit using the given stimulus. In conclusion, as a teacher preparing scheme of work, lesson plan and preparing teaching materials should be something that teacher know to do very well. This is because teacher will definitely going to make use all of these things so much in helping to manage the lesson throughout a lesson, per weekly or even the entire year. Therefore by mastering all of these will make a teacher well managed in his or her works and this will develop teacher to be more productive and the teaching and learning will be more meaningful and able to produce excellent pupils for the future.
