To Whom It May Concern: Recently I have been researching palm oil and the devastating effects it has on both the environment and animals. I am concerned about the use of palm oil in your products and its impact on the environment. I have a few questions: 1) Palm oil is causing the extinction of orangutans and other species. Are you looking into sustainable alternatives for use in your products? 2) If you are part of a palm oil free company, do you plan on advertising this on your products with palm oil free stamps or labels so that consumers are aware of the steps you are taking to be environmentally conscious and sustainable? 3) Manufacturers and Retailers Due to your massive market power, I feel it is your obligation to source palm oil free products. What are you doing to address this issue? The destruction of rain forests in Indonesia and Malaysia for palm oil have been devastating, particularly in the past 45 years. There has been a steady increase in the production of palm oil, and therefore, habitat loss for many species, such as Sumatran tigers and orangutans. These species are critically endangered and are bordering extinction due to mass deforestation and the conversion of land to palm oil plantations. It is imperative that you take concern. According to the literature, orangutan populations saw a 50-80% decline over the past 60 years. This is a serious matter and companies, retailers, and manufacturers need to act now. It is your moral and environmental responsibility. I look forward to your response and thank you for your time. Sincerely,
