Melting chips in a furnace

(installed at Busch-Jger, Ldenscheid)

Melting non-ferrous metal chips places high demands on the appropriate process and furnace concept because chips tend to be wet and are difficult to stir into the metal bath owing to their low unit weight. These difficulties conventionally lead to high metal losses. Busch-Jger consequently decided in favour of the INDUGA furnace concept. The 3-ton furnace is equipped with a suitably dimensioned refractory hood which not only allows the controlled input of material directly into the molten metal, but also guarantees the practically complete combustion of any hydrocarbons that are present. This chip melting process obtains maximum yields and reduces the environmental impact to a minimum.

INDUGA designs and supplies Channel-type induction furnaces for melting, holding and casting Coreless induction furnaces Furnaces for piece and strip galvanizing Gravity die casting machines Low-pressure casting machines Plasma systems Besides flexibility, our approach is typified by individual concepts and processspecific solutions that take account of both quality and efficiency aspects.

Induction furnace with charging hood and weighing device

The INDUGA furnace for melting chips is typified by a refractory hood with a central feed tube for adding the chips directly to the melt. Its dimensions ensure adequate post-combustion of any hydrocarbon-containing emulsions without giving rise to any excessive metal losses. Moreover, the geometric and electrical specification of the furnace makes certain that the chips do not rise to the surface but are efficiently mixed in the bath within the dross-free centre. As standard, the furnace is equipped with a weighing device that controls both metering and output fully automatically; that is to say, once continuous chip charging has commenced, the metering operation and furnace output are matched to one another. Additional control devices required by the specific process can be provided as options if the furnace is to be integrated in an existing production line.
