Michael Harris - Sixth Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo


Michael Harris is an experienced scholar and academic leader who has served as the chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo. Under Dr. Harris' leadership, IU Kokomo saw significant growth in numerous key areas. Fundraising achieved historic levels, enrollment quality similarly peaked, and the campus cash reserves increased. Michael Harris also introduced 16 new academic programs and secured funding to begin the development of a new on-campus wellness and fitness center, in addition to other infrastructure improvements. Prior to his career in academia, Michael Harris studied economics and public policy at Bar Ilan and Tel Aviv Universities in Israel, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degree, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in public policy at Indiana University in 1993, and worked as an assistant professor within the graduate program in public policy at Tel Aviv University before accepting a similar position at Eastern Michigan University. While at Eastern Michigan, Michael Harris transitioned into administrative positions including interim department head, coordinator of undergraduate studies, and associate provost. Before coming to IU Kokomo, Dr. Harris served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kettering University.
