Weather
India is the seventh largest country in the world and the weather
is varied across the length and breadth of the country. From the
cold winters of the north to the balmy tropics of the south, one
can fnd wide ranges of temperatures. Typically the temperatures
range from 25 deg Centigrade/77 deg Fahrenheit to 40C/104
deg Fahrenheit in the south and from 2 deg Centigrade/36 deg
Fahrenheit to 35C/95 deg Fahrenheit in the North. Snow and ice
cover the mountains of the North, soft sand covers the coastal

The city
A legacy of the Nizams, the 400-year-old city of Hyderabad is
celebrated for its forts, mosques, mausoleums, and palaces, not to
forget the delectable Nawabi cuisine. The twin cities of Hyderabad

Located as it is, north of South India and south of North India,

Places of interest
Birla Mandir
Dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, this magnifcent edifce comes
alive each evening when it is lit. Ten years in the making, the
granite image of the presiding deity is about 11 feet tall.
Birla Planetarium
Birla Planetarium is one of the countrys leading planetariums.
There are sky shows held every day.
Charminar
Charminar is the most famous of all Hyderabads symbols, built
by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah. Charminar is surrounded by the
hustle and bustle of commerce pearl and jewelry shops and
perfume and attar (perfume extract) dealers.
Golconda Fort
Golconda Fort was built by the Kakatiyas in the 13th century
and was improved upon by the Qutub Shahi kings. It is a
massive granite fort with walls and ramparts 7 kilometers in
circumference. The city within the walls spawned such immortal
gems as the Koh-i-Noor, the Hope Diamond, and the Orloff
Diamond of Catherine the Great. In the evenings, Golconda
Fort features a Sound and Light Show.
High Court
High Court is a lovely Mughal-inspired building near Afzal Gunj
Bridge. It is constructed with local pink granite, red standstone
featuring carved columns and panels.
Jalagam Vengal Rao Park
Jalagam Vengal Rao Park is on Rd# 1 Banjara Hills. It is a popular
spot for locals to enjoy their morning/evening walks.
Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park
Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is the citys favorite park
for jogging. You can not miss the green expanse on the way to
Jubilee Hills.
Mecca Masjid
Mecca Masjid is the second largest mosque in India and the
seventh largest in the world accomodating 10,000 people at
one time. Interestingly, some of its bricks were brought from the
original Mecca.
Nehru Zoological Park
Nehru Zoological Park is spread over 300 acres and is one of the
largest zoos in Asia. Large recreational parks, gardens, a mini
train, animal rides, and the nocturnal cave make for a thrilling
experience. It is an ideal spot for a picnic.
Qutub Shahi Tombs
The Qutub Shahi Tombs were constructed on square bases
surrounded by arches. At the center of each tomb sits a
sarcophagus.
Ramoji Film City
Ramoji Film City is the Universal Studios of India. Spread across
2500 acres, it is the worlds largest flm studio complex.
Salarjung Museum
Salarjung Museum contains the largest private collection
of antiques in the world. Do not miss the Jade Room with
priceless objects.
Shilparamam
Shilparamam is a crafts village adjacent to Cyber towers. It houses
handloom and handicraft stalls throughout the year.
Chowmahalla Palace
Built over 200 years ago, Chowmahalla Palace is renowned for its
unique architectural style and elegance. It was the seat of the Asaf
Jahi dynasty where the Nizams entertained their offcial guests
and royal visitors. It is open to select individuals and corporate
companies for hosting their cultural events dinners and receptions.
Paigah Tombs
Paigah Tombs are tombs of several generations of the Paigah
nobles. The Paigah were great patrons of fne art, literature, and
sports. They were close to Nizams and so enjoyed a signifcant
social status. Locals claim that the geometrical patters and designs
of these stunning tombs are only one of its kind.
Purani Haveli
Purani Haveli is a U shaped complex with a single storied
central building in European style. This architectural landmark of
Hyderabad refects the combination of the 18th century European
facades with traditional Indian courtyards. It was built during the
reign of the Asaf Jahis.
Sanghi Temple
The Sanghi temple is located in Sanghinagar 25 kms from
Hyderabad. Situated on a hillock named Paramanand Giri, the
temples presiding deity is Lord Venkateshwara. The majestic
temple complex is built in the Chola-Chalukya style of architecture
and hosts all important Hindu Gods.

Museums and galleries
South Mumbai is teeming with museums, particularly the Prince
of Wales museum and the National gallery of Modern Art. You

Mumbai has several cultural festivals each year. These include
Banganga
The musical festival is organized by MTDC, every year at Banganga
Tank on Malabar Hill in January.
Elephanta Festival
Art and dance festival by renowned artists. Scheduled each year

Kala Ghoda Festival
The arts and crafts festival is held in the last week of January or
in the frst week of February every year in the historic precinct of
Kala Ghoda.
There is a lot to see in Mumbai. The following are some typical

Colaba Causeway
South to the Gateway of India is the area of Colaba Causeway,
the commercial road that is extremely popular with the tourists
and locals. There are shops and vendors selling anything and
everything under the sun. This is the place to come, if you want to
taste the favor of the city that never sleeps.
Elephanta Caves
Elephanta Island is reachable within an hour by boat, has old
rock-cut Hindu temples, shrines, and caves that date back from
the sixth century. The whole island is dedicated to the Hindu Lord,
Shiva. The Elephanta Caves have been declared a World Heritage
Site by UNESCO. You can catch a boat at the Gateway of India.
Gateway of India
The Gateway of India is also known as Apollo Bunder and was
designed by George Wittet to commemorate George V and Queen
Marys visit to India in 1911. You can see a picturesque view of the
famous Taj Mahal Palace and Hotel.
Haji Ali Mosque
This whitewashed, fairytale Mosque built in the nineteenth century
located half a kilometer into the sea, contains the tomb of the
Muslim saint, Haji Ali.
Harbor cruise
If you can afford it, rent the Taj Mahal Hotels private yacht (has
two sun decks and three bedrooms) for a cruise around the
Mumbai harbor. Approximately $300/hour (including drinks and
meals).
Kotachiwadi
Amid the high-rise jumble of South Mumbai is Kotachiwadi, where
lies an East Indian Christian enclave of 30 heritage structures with
elegant two-storey wooden mansions. Most of these wooden
mansions are dated and fall under the Heritage Act.
Marine Drive
Popularly known as the Queens Necklace. This is one of Mumbais
most popular promenades and sunset-watching spots.
Poonawallas breeders multimillion
On the last Sunday of every February, the glitterati of Mumbai
dress up for the Ascot of Mumbai at the Mahalaxmi Race Course.
With High Tea, amazing hats, and hundreds of ordinary punters
staking their little all on the outside chance, this is the event to
attend in Mumbai.

The city
Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore is the capital of the Indian
state of Karnataka. Located on the Deccan Plateau in the south-

Places of interest
Lal Bagh
This is a botanical garden, commissioned by the Hyder Ali in the
year 1760. The 240 acre park is home to over 1,000 species of
fora and a Glass House. The park is known for its annual fower
show. The garden surrounds one of the towers erected by the
founder of Bengaluru, Kempe Gowda I. The Lal Bagh Rock, dates
back to 3,000 million years, is another attraction.
Cubbon Park
It is located in the heart of the city and spreads over 300 acres
(1.2 km
2
). The part was created in the year 1884, by Major
General Richard Sankey. The park is home to numerous trees and
plants that span over 68 genera and 96 species. The park is also
known for its kids train.
Tipu Sultans Summer Palace
Built in 1791, this beautiful two-storeyed ornate wooden structure
with exquisitely carved pillars, arches and balconies was one of
Tipus favorite summer retreats. It now houses a museum that
contains artefacts relating to the Hyder-Tipu regime.
Bengaluru Palace
This is a palace located in the city and is built to look like a smaller
replica of the Windsor Castle in England.
Vidhana Soudha
It is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka. It is an imposing
granite building, built in the year 1956 in the Neo-Dravidian
style, incorporates elements of Indo-Saracenic, Rajasthani Jharokha
and Dravidian styles. Vidhana Soudha is the brainchild of Kengal
Hanumanthaiah and built by chief engineer B.R. Manickam.
Attara Kacheri (Karnataka High Court)
Overlooking Vidhana Sabha is this red brick and stone building in
the Greco-Roman style of architecture. It houses the High Court
for the state of Karnataka.
Bengaluru Museum
The museum was instituted as part of the centenary celebrations
of the engineer-statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya (18611962).
HAL Aerospace Museum
The Museum showcases the growth of the Indian aviation industry
and HAL for six decades. The museum houses displays of various
aircraft and helicopters, Aircraft engine models, Flight simulators,
a mock Air Traffc Control Tower and exhibit of Indian aviation
history.
Bull Temple
Built by Kempe Gowda I, it is reminiscent of the 16th century
Dravidian style architecture. It has a huge granite monolith of
Nandi. This landmark is situated at bull temple road, Basavangudi.
ISKCON Temple: (International Society for Krishna
Consciousness)
Built in an ornate architectural style, the Krishna Temple is a blend
of modern technology and spiritual harmony.
St. Marys Basilica
It is the oldest church in Bengaluru and is the only church in the
state that has been elevated to the status of a minor basilica. It is
famous for the festivities held during the St. Marys Feast in the
month of September each year, an event that attracts a number of
devotees from in and around Bengaluru.

Jain Singh II of Jaipur during the 18th century. The odd structures
inside are actually enormous scientifc instruments for measuring

National Railway Museum in Chanakyapuri houses a collection

Bah Lotus Temple
Shaped like a lotus bud with 27 petals, this stunning temple
suspended above milky-blue ponds is surely one of the most

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
This Gurudwara in Connaught Place, is the main gurudwara for
the many Sikhs of Delhi.
Gurudwara Sis Ganj
An important Sikh place of worship. Built on the spot where their
ninth guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, was beheaded on the orders of
the mughal emperor Aurangzeb, it is an oasis of calm in the chaos
of Old Delhis Chandni Chowk.
Sacred Heart Cathedral
It is the biggest church in terms of structure and also the
headquarters of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese. A must visit to
enjoy the beautiful architecture and pristine beauty.
ISKCON
Centre for Krishna Consciousness, it has robotic shows and
multimedia presentations, apart from the traditional temple
complex. Lively atmosphere and excellent tasting sweets and
the delicious Govindas restaurant is on site.
Jama Masjid
Opposite the Red Fort, next to Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, this is
the largest mosque in India and a must see while in Delhi.
Lakshmi Narayan Temple
Popularly known as Birla Mandir, this temple is located next to
Connaught Place. It is a big impressive Hindu temple complex.
Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple
Completed in 2005 by the socio-spiritual organization BAPS, no
expense has been spared in decorating this large and elaborate
temple carved of red sandstone. The central monument, built
without any steel, houses an 11-ft golden statue of the founder of
the Swaminarayan faith, Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
National Zoological Park
The Delhi Zoo is a very large and sprawling park dedicated to
preserving the rich biodiversity of the country. This park may be the
only chance of seeing a tiger or elephant for some travelers.

Chandni Chowk
The heart of Old Delhi, this is the place to go for the full-on Indian
experience of crowded, twisting alleys and tiny shops.
Dilli Haat
South Delhi (INA Market stn, Metro Yellow Line). Crafts fairs
happen here every week. It is a wonderful place to get crafts from
all over the country. This has a huge number of restaurants, each
showcasing the food of a particular state of India. (Most of them
give a mix of Chinese and Indian food, but state delicacies are also
