LTE UL Feedback: Periodic and Aperiodic CQI Subband Reporting

Posted on September 16, 2013 by IS-Wireless-Expert by: IS-Wireless Questions / Problems description: Is there any difference between subband reporting for aperiodic CQI and subband reporting for periodic CQI? Answer: Yes, there are minor differences in the two different types of CQI reporting, as indicated below for example of Mode 2-0 (UE selected subband CQI with no PMI):

Aperiodic subband feedback o The report is provided using PUSCH upon receiving DCI format 0 or Random Access Response Grant with respective CQI request field is set to 1. o UE shall select a set of M preferred subbands, and report one CQI value reflecting transmission only over the M selected subbands from set S. Additionally UE shall report one wideband CQI value assuming transmission over whole set S subbands. Periodic subband feedback

o The report is provided using PUCCH (in subframes with no PUSCH allocation) in a semi-statically assigned resources and periodicity (or in PUSCH in subframes with PUSCH allocation in both cases the same formats are used). o UE shall select the preferred subband within the set of N subbands in each of J bandwidth parts, and report one CQI value reflecting the transmission only over the selected subband of a single bandwidth part. Reports about each bandwidth part are be provided to the eNB in following reporting opportunities. References:
