DEFINITION OF TERMS: Asthma is the common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction, and bronchospasm. Symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Blue collar is typically a job involving manual labor and an hourly rate of pay. Cancer- is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Dependency ratio is an age-population ratio of those typically not in the labor force (the dependent part) and those typically in the labor force (the productive part). It is used to measure the pressure on productive population. Deep well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, boring or drilling to access groundwater in underground aquifers Diarrhea is the condition of having three or more loose or liquid bowel movements per day. Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination),polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger). Extended Family- defines a family that extends beyond the immediate family, consisting of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all living nearby or in the same household. Family planning the practice of controlling the number of children in a family and the

intervals between their births Flush Toilet - is a toilet that disposes of human liquid and solid waste, by using water to flush it through a drainpipe to another location for disposal. Heart Diseaseis a class of diseases that involve the heart, the blood

vessels (arteries, capillaries, and veins) or both. Hypertension is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. Kidney Disease Damage to the nephrons and loss of kidney function, that results in accumulation of water; waste; and toxic substances, in the body, that are normally excreted by the kidney Lung Illness- encompasses pathological conditions affecting the organs and tissues that make gas exchange possible in higher organisms, and includes conditions of the upper respiratory tract, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, alveoli, pleura and pleural cavity, and the nerves and muscles of breathing. Makeshift is an improvised type of house, which is made from whatever is available (pieces of wood, metals, etc) Malnutrition is the condition that results from eating a diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high in intake), or in the wrong proportions Morbidity- refers to the disease state of an individual, or the incidence of illness in a population.

Mortality- refers to the state of being mortal, or the incidence of death (number of deaths) in a population. Nuclear Family- is a term used to define a family group consisting of a pair of adults and their children Pink Collar- performs what is sometimes regarded as women's work, such as jobs in the service industry. Pit latrine- a dry toilet system which collects human excrement in a large container and ranges from a simple slit trench to more elaborate systems with ventilation. Pour Flush Toilet- like a regular Flush Toilet except that instead of the water coming from the cistern above, it is poured in by the user. Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition of the lungespecially affecting the microscopic air sacs (alveoli)associated with fever, chest symptoms, and a lack of air space (consolidation) on a chest X-ray Pulmonary Tuberculosis is a common, and in many cases lethal, infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacterium, usually Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is spread through the air when people who have an active TB infection cough, sneeze, or otherwise transmit their saliva through the air. Rented is a room or housing accommodation which is not free. Stroke is the rapid loss of brain function(s) due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to ischemia (lack of blood flow) caused by blockage (thrombosis, arterial embolism), or a hemorrhage.

Upper Respiratory Tract Infection - are the illnesses caused by an acute infection which involves the upper respiratory tract: nose, sinuses, pharynx or larynx. This commonly includes: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, sinusitis, otitis media, and the common cold. Urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection that affects the part of the urinary tract. Waste segregation - means dividing waste into dry and wet. Dry waste includes wood and related products, metals and glass. Wet waste, typically refers to organic waste usually generated by eating establishments and are heavy in weight due to dampness. Waste can also be segregated on basis of biodegradable or non-biodegradable waste. White collar typically performs work in an office environment and may involve sitting at a computer or desk.

The figure shows that 415 or 15.82% of the respondents in Barangay Anahaw II use recreational behavioral vices. 95 or 3.62% admits to cigarette smoking use. 109 or 4.16 % admits to alcohol use. 164 or 6.25 % admits that they use both cigarette smoking and alcohol. 47 or 1.79% admits to illicit drug use and gambling. 95 or 3.62% of the respondents in Barangay Anahaw II admits to cigarette smoking. Cigarette smoking increases the risk for many types of cancer, including cancers of the lip, oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, pancreas, larynx (voice box), lung, uterine cervix, urinary bladder, and kidney. The risk of developing lung cancer is about 23 times higher among men who smoke cigarettes and about 13 times higher among women who smoke cigarettes compared with never smokers. 109 respondents or 4.16% of the survey group consume alcoholic beverages and 164 or 6.25 % admits that they use both cigarette smoking and alcohol. Alcohol and tobacco use may lead to major health risks when used alone and together. In addition to contributing to traumatic death and injury (e.g., through car crashes), alcohol is associated with chronic liver disease, cancers, cardiovascular disease, acute alcohol poisoning (i.e., alcohol toxicity), and fetal alcohol syndrome. Smoking is associated with lung disease, cancers, and cardiovascular disease. Additionally, a growing body of evidence suggests that these substances might be especially

dangerous when they are used together; when combined, alcohol and tobacco dramatically increase the risk of certain cancers (cancer of the mouth and throat, liver cancer and cardiovascular disease). 47 or 1.79% admits to illicit drug use and gambling but according to the barangay officials and some residents in the barangay said that there is an increasing incidence of drug using and pushing which really give major problem in the community. This needed validation from the police and barangay records
