Logos
Description:

Course Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 2 Sister Esplin

Program(s)/ Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objective:
Learn to use objects to create interesting logos. Learn to use color schemes that are attractive.

Process:
The very first thing I did as I prepared for this project was research. I looked at a lot of different logos to get an idea of what I should do. Then I came up with the company. I am really into surfing so I decided to go with a surf shop as my theme. My nick name is Mac so I decided on Mac Surf Shop for the company. Then I began sketching ideas. Once I had sketched different ideas I started to think of different color schemes and fonts for each idea. After I felt comfortable with my sketches I took it to Illustrator. After playing around in Illustrator for a bit, I printed it so I could see how the logos looked when printed. In class we had time for people to critique our logos. After receiving some wonderful feedback I was able to go back into Illustrator and make changes which gave me the final project I have today.

I first designed the logo. Then I went into Indesign and created the pages for both the letterhead and the business card. I then started putting together what I had sketched into Indesign. I had to work a lot with links between Illustrator and Indesign because I couldnt do everything I was hoping to do in Indesign. Once I got the rough draft done I took it to class and had it critiqued. After receiving some good critiques I made changes in Indesign and Illustrator to better the look of my project.

After watching some videos and working with other students I started to work with the css demo that was given to the class. I worked in Text Wrangler and photoshop for this project. After making a rough draft, I brought it into class to be critiqued. After receiving some great critique, I returned back to the computer to make the necessary changes.

Course Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 2 Sister Esplin

Program(s)/ Tools:
Adobe Illustrator Adobe Indesign Adobe PhotShop

Objective:
Learn to create a well laid out brochure. Learn to write using own material and not copying and pasting text. Learn to print double sided and get all of the edges aligned.

Process:
The first thing that was needed when coming up with this brochure was to figure out what type of brochure I wanted. Being from Southern California, I really love it and always want people to come visit me there. I figured doing a Visit Southern California type brochure would be fitting. I then began doing sketches and figuring out the layout of the brochure. The I began to search for images online. Once I had my sketches, lay out and images, I began to work in InDesign. I had to use PhotoShop to edit certain images and for clipping out the image of California. I used Illustrator to design my logo. After receiving critique from a few different sources, I was able to put it altogether for the final project.

Learn to creat an event ad. Learn to use the elements of design. Learn to choose a good color scheme that fits the event. Learn to design in Microsoft Word

Process:
The program used for this project was Microsoft Word. The image was scanned from a magazine and then the ad was designed through Microsoft Word. In Microsoft Word I focused mostly on using text boxes and the drawing tools section to organize my design. After having the first draft complete, it was critiqued by my peers. After hearing great feedback I was able to make changes that made my design stronger.

Imaging
Description:
This project was to display our knowledge of photography, our capability to edit photographs in Photoshop, and then to create an attractive design using one of the photos. It was all to see how well we could use a color scheme in the project.

Course Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 2 Sister Esplin

Program(s)/ Tools:
Photo Shop Adobe Illustrator

Objective:
Learn to take good photos using different photography rules. Learn to edit photos in PhotoShop. Learn to use a well thought out color scheme.

Process:
I first began this project by taking multiple photos as was outlined in the project description. After taking the photos needed I went to Photoshop. In Photoshop I was able to edit all of the photos and then see which one worked best for the color scheme I wanted to use. After choosing the photo I felt best went with my color scheme, I then thought of what I wanted the message to be. After deciding on the color scheme, the photo, and the message I started to play around with many ideas in Photoshop. I decided to work mostly with lines and boxes. My color swatch is in the bottom left hand corner with varying shades of Brick. I chose fonts that I felt fit well with the message and the audience it is aimed at. When I felt that it was a good rough draft I printed it out on colored paper and took it to class for critiquing. After hearing some great feed back I made the changes that were suggested to me. This is the final outcome.

Flier

Course Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 2 Sister Esplin

Program(s)/ Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objective:
Learn to use the most basic elements of design.

Process:
First I looked at all of the text and photos that I could use to imagine what I should do. Then I sketched four different drawings to plan how I wanted to layout the text and pictures. After getting my ideas out on paper I moved to InDesign. I put the best idea I had on paper into InDesign. When I thought I had it just right I printed a copy. When I looked at the copy I realized the mistakes I had made and what I could improve on. I ended up re-printing it two more times until I felt like I had edited it right. Then I brought my rough draft into class and let others critique it. After hearing some great feedback I knew what I needed to improve on. I went back into InDesign and I fixed all that I could which led to this project I have now.
