1) Overview 2) Features 3) Using the sensor 4) Troubleshooting and getting help This is a common Starter Guide for all our MQ series based Gas Sensor Modules. These modules differ only in the actual MQ sensor onboard. The MQ sensor used onboard determines which gas the module is capable of detecting LPG, CNG, CO or Alcohol. Regardless of the sensor used onboard, the instructions to use the module are the same.

1. Overview
The MQ series of Gas Sensors are simple and cost effective sensors useful for sensing gases in the air. There is a wide range of sensors available each of which are made to detect a specific gas like LPG, CNG, Carbon Monoxide and Alcohol. They provide great accuracy and performance for their price. As such, they are perfect for hobby purposes and prototyping. They come in a six pin package with odd pin spacing and pin size, which makes it tough to use them with standard breadboards and prototyping

The Probots Gas Sensor Module makes it easy to work with these sensors by taking care of all the power supply and external circuitry needed to get both an analog and a digital output from these sensors. It provides a simple 4 pin interface through standard 0.1 male header pins. This makes it easy to use this sensor with standard breadboards and prototyping boards and enables easy integration with other circuits. The module can be used to make smoke detectors, LPG gas detectors, air quality sensors, alcohol breathalyzer, etc.

2. Features
This is a simple to use Gas Sensor Module which can not only sense the presence gases but also their concentration in air. Depending on the sensor used, the module can detect LPG, CNG, CO or Alcohol in the air. It simplifies interface to the odd pin spacing of the sensor and provides interface through 4 x 0.1" header pins. It provides both an analog output corresponding to the concentration of the gases in the air and an easy to use digital output indicating the presence of the gas. The onboard potentiometer can be used to set the maximum gas concentration beyond which the digital output gets triggered. An onboard LED indicates the presence of any gas. The digital output can be easily interfaced to microcontrollers and other circuits to detect the presence of the gas. The analog output can be hooked up to an ADC of a microcontroler to detect the concentration of the gas in the air.

module. You can connect it to a ADC circuit to get the exact gas concentration. Notes: 1. Once powered, you will have to wait a few seconds for the sensor to heat up slightly, before you set the potentiometer and get the output. 2. Please go through the datasheets of individual sensors for more information about them.

4. Troubleshooting and Getting Help

We are committed to ensure that our customers' projects, designs and research go as efficiently and as smoothly as possible. And for this we promise and provide an excellent after-sales support facility. Due to the nature of the products we sell, we are sure to receive a lot of request for support. In anticipation of this, we have created a separate section, "Resources" , where we have many tutorials covering how to use our products. Your first step to seek support from us would be to surf through the "Resources" section for answers to your query. If our "Resources" section doesn't address your query, mail us directly at info@probots.co.in for further support. When you contact us for support, please keep the following things in mind you will have to provide us with the invoice information(order no., date of purchase, etc.) provide us with all the required details(operating system being used, compiler being used, etc) do not ask us questions or doubts about products we do not sell do not contact us 2 days before a project deadline for any sort of immediate or urgent support do not mail us a rephrased version of your project contact us only if you know what you are doing, do not expect any sort of help from our side otherwise

3. Using the module

The module has a simple 4 pin interface > 5V, Gnd, Dout and Aout. The input 5V power should be provided to the 5V and the Gnd pin. The digital output of the module is provided on the third pin Dout. The analog output of the module is provided on the fourth pin Aout. Once the module is powered up, you will have to calibrate the module for the specific environment it will be used in. To calibrate the module, you will have to set the potentiometer by turning its knob by hand or a screw driver. You will have to power the module and rotate the knob of the potentiometer until the output of the module changes from high to low. The potentiometer sets the maximum gas concentration threshold beyond which the digital output of the module gets triggered. When the gas concentration is less that the threshold, the Dout pin will have a low (0V) output. When the gas concentration crosses the threshold, the Dout pin goes high (5V). The onboard output signal LED indicates the presence of the gas. The Aout pin outputs an analog voltage between 0V and 5V corresponding to the gas concentration of the air surrounding the
