the kids will prepare a Taino naming ceremony dance paint and decorate dance outfit using Tainos symbols. and of course, lots and lots of areitos! make a special something that you can wear to display your Taino pride! During the Puerto Rican parade on August 2nd. PLEASE RSVP to info@gcler.org SO THERE CAN BE ENOUGH SUPPLIES FOR ALL The program culmination will be: Pueblos Tainos: History, Myth and todays reality - This presentation will take the audience through the history of the Taino of Boriken (Puerto Rico) and the Caribbean. With Evelyn Cassano from Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester and Cynthia Rochet Avenue D community Center and special guest.

Fabric Painting Class at Avenue D Center

On Summer 2014, our Avenue D Community Center students, their families, and team of volunteer will be enjoying the Pueblos Tainos a program for the whole family. This summer we will celebrate Taino heritage with educational activities that will include: learn how to sculpt in maracas Taino style learn how to make casava bread play the Taino ballgame of Batu

Mayohuacan drum making month of August Avenue D Afro Latino Dance Group and Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester will end the day teaching an Areyto "Guaytiao," a Taino ceremonial dance for all accompanied by Mayohuacan (Healing drum). Taino Feather Craft Workshop, month of July Avenue D Community Center, will be teaching how to make Taino feather craft. As a gift, the center will bring all the feathers and supplies needed to

The majority of Avenue D program Educational Series of Latin America dancers come from low-income families. Avenue D dancers represent a diverse population: approximately 40% identify as Hispanic or Latino; 50% as African American; and 10% as Caucasian. Quarterly the program impacts over 7,000 audience including public school students, their parents, teachers and local communities through classes, assemblies, residencies and performances. This program is a joint force between Avenue D Community Center and Grupo Cultural Latinos En Rochester and IADC Project HOPE.
