STABCON Tie-in System

The Stab and Connect Connection System (STABCON) is designed to install and connect Rigid and Flexible Flowlines, Umbilicals and Rigid Spools in deep and ultra-deep waters in two modes. In Mode-1, a hinged stab on the termination head enters a receptacle on the subsea structure before the termination head is moved into horizontal position for connection by the ROV carried Connector Actuating Tool (CAT). In Mode-2, the Termination Heads with stabs, are used for docking and connection of Horizontal Spools.

STABCON Tie-in System

The STABCON Tie-in system has the advantage of being designed to perform a series of tie-ins and connections without returning the CAT to the surface. The connection system ( CAT ) is very compact, requires minimal mobilisation, and is air transportable world-wide.

Technical Description
Main system components
Tie-in Porch with an Inboard Hub permanently installed on each structure to provide the connection point for the Termination Head at each end of the spool/owline.

Termination Head on each end of the spool/owline, in Monobore conguration or Multibore conguration for a Well Jumper. The Termination Head has an orientation key and a Heavy Stab that locates in a receptacle on the Tie-in Porch during docking. Protection Caps to protect the seal faces on the Inboard Hub and in the Connector before connection of the Sea-line.

Tie-in of Rigid Horizontal Spool

Lifting Yoke to provide the interface with the Termination Head for lifting the Spool during installation. Optional Guide Wires and Anchors for initial guidance and docking of the Termination Head on the Tie-in Porch. For deep water installation, the Guide Wires are deployed locally by the ROV with tension maintained by buoyancy elements. For shallow water installation, the Guide Wires can be run from a surface vessel or drilling rig if required. Stroking and connection of the Termination Head to the Inboard Hub is carried out using the Connector Actuation Tool (CAT) System, a connection tool system that is deployed and operated by ROV. The tool system includes various ROV operated tools for inspection and cleaning of the Inboard Hub and the seal face in the Connector.

Installation/Handling
Deepwater installation of a Rigid Spool up to 30 OD

A Lifting Yoke is locked to each Termination Head and the Spool is hooked up to the spreader beam. The Spool is deployed and lowered to within a few metres above the target areas on the subsea structures. For GL operation, the Guide Wire and buoyancy element is deployed at each end of the Spool and the Guide Wire Anchors are connected to the receptacle on each Tie-in Porch. The Spool is lowered until the stab on the rst Termination Head enters the stab receptacle on the Tie-in Porch. The second Termination Head will align horizontally as the Spool continues to be lowered until the stab enters the stab receptacle and lands on the Tie-in Porch. The Lifting Yoke is unlocked and released from each Termination Head by the ROV. The Lifting Yokes and Guide Wires (if used) are recovered to the surface with the spreader beam. The Connector Actuation Tool (CAT) is landed and locked on the rst Termination Head by the ROV. The Termination Head is levelled and locked in the horizontal position. The Protection Caps are removed from the Connector and the Inboard Hub. The Termination Head is stroked against the Inboard Hub and the Connector is closed. A pressure test is carried out to verify the integrity of the Connector seal. The CAT is unlocked and lifted from the Termination Head and Inboard Hub. The connection procedure is repeated to connect the second Termination Head to the Inboard Hub without returning the CAT to the surface vessel.
