Forest has the highest biodiversity among the natural ecosystem, dominated by trees and other woody plants.

Animals that live in the forests are wild and free. Bears, deer, raccoons, birds and insects are found in the forest. Shrubs and other plants like Poison Ivy, Ferns, Dandelion, Black hawthorn and trees include Maple, Oak, Hemlock and assortment of vines. Forests provide food and habitats for a variety of plants and animals. 1. Describe a forest. 2. What are the animals that live in a forest? 3. What are examples of plants and animals that live in a forest? 4. Why are forests important? Grasslands are characterized by big open spaces dominated by grasses. A list of a few of the animals that can be found on the grasslands include the Bighorn sheep, gazelle, elk, antelope, bush dog, jackal, wolf, raccoon dog, Asiatic wild dog, leopard, many types of foxes. Big eared bats and African elephant can also be found in this biome. The soil of most grassland is too thin and dry for trees to survive. Less water is available and frequent fire prevents them from growing. Grasses serve as the food source of herbivores. Carnivores indirectly benefit when they consume their grass-eating prey. 1. What characterizes grassland? 2. What animals can be found in a grassland? 3. Why is it that only grass and few trees can grow in this biome? 4. Why are grasses important? Desert is marked by a dry condition of soil and receives very little rainfall in a year. Cactus and aloe are examples of desert plants. They have specialized stem that store water and large set of roots that collect water. Desert animals like Snake, lizards, camel and nocturnal animals like owls have developed adaptations to survive the extreme conditions in the desert. Camel has the ability to store large amount of water in a long period of time. 1. Describe a desert. 2. What are examples of plants and animals living in the desert? 3. What enables them to adapt to this kind of environment? Tundra is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients and short growing seasons. Plants receive little precipitation and there exist permanently frozen subsoil. The musk ox is one of the largest here; others include the snowy owl, caribou, hare, lemming, Arctic fox, and the stoat; and polar bears are often found on the edge of the tundra, but more often on ice. In the summer months, many birds and animals take advantage of the warmer, short season to breed. Some animals in the tundra are adapted to the climate by breeding and raising their young in the summer. Many animals hibernate, or sleep during the worst part of winter to minimize energy loss. 1. How do you describe a tundra? 2. Why only limited plants grow in this region? 3. What animals are found in a tundra? 4. How do animals in the tundra adapt to the climate?
