Brochure
Description: A duplex, folding brochure. Date: March 29, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: All three Adobe Creative Programs Objectives: Create a folding duplex brochure with several programs. Process: The first thing I did was measure, cut out, and fold a brochure out of a 1711 inch piece of sketch paper and sketched out my design. Then I created my template in InDesign, and brought the rulers down so I knew where everything would be placed. I created my barn in Illustrator with the pen tool and filled in the colors, then put it into Photoshop. There I added the wood texture, multiplied it, flattened the layers, lassoed it out, saved as a mask, and placed it in Indesign. The barn logo is just the original barn from Illustrator. For the fence I did the same thing as the barn. The three outdoor images were placed in Photoshop first, lassoed out, and saved as masks before being placed in InDesign. The image of my family was created by adding a textured orange background behind and then multiplying again. Then I went to select, refine image, and I increased the feather, the reach, and the roughness of the edge. I added the text and did a full text wrap with each. I made the paragraphs the Line Paragraph style. I added a square box with 85% opacity in varying browns behind to add in readability, and then gave them a drop shadow. I put the words Reese Family Ranch in 4 separate boxes, and the logo as the A in its own box. I added an outer glow on each of the words for more contrast.

Event Ad
Description: A full bleed event ad using only a scanned image and Microsoft Word. Date: February 1, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media / Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Programs I used are Microsoft Word, WorksCenter scanner, and PDF to JPG. Objectives: To create a professional looking event ad with limited resources. Process: I took this pictures from a book titled American Cars, Past to Present authored by Matt Delorenzo. I scannd the image into the computer and then I input the image into Word, and made sure the margins were .125 After placed in Word, I brightened the picture to add contrast to the text I would add. I added three text boxes that were completely transparent and allowed for overlap on top of the image. I made the words car show black and large to pop, and then added a red line beneath it and to the right, beneath which I added the text for the event to the left of the line (I was going for a stair-step looking design here). I put the third text box at the bottom left with the event specifics. The event details and the title are aligned together with the cars headlight, the line is aligned with the Cars A and ends at the body copies h on the end of the word through. The body is aligned to the other corner of

Photodesign
Description: A full bleed poster using basic photography skills and Photoshop editing techniques. Date: February 8, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM 130 Visual Media / Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Basic camera, Photoshop Objectives: To create a full bleed poster with a photograph taken and edited in Photshop. Process: To make this public service announcement, I took the photo of the fruti at home. I edited the picture in Photoshop by sharpening the edges of the fruit, changing the levels around, adjusting saturation and color, and changing the size of the image to fit my 11x8.5 layout. I added the green bars to emphasize my color scheme and emphasize the words. I wanted the word fruit to pop out, and be a simple message. I finished by perfecting the alignment with the colored boxes and text .

Montage
Description: A montage created by blending two or more images together. Date: 02/15/2104 Course/Instructor: COMM 130 Visual Media / Cory Kerr Programs/tools: Adobe Photoshop Objectives: Learn how to use masks and different tools in Photoshop such as lassoe tool to create a montoge of images with appropriate typography. Process: I picked two images online (sunset and flag background), and my familys Christmas photo from last year. Then, using Adobe Photoshop, I put the flag as my whole background and cropped it to 8.5 x 11 inches. I opened my family photo in Photoshop and using the lasso tool with a 100% feather, I cut out the main image and placed it on top of the flag photo. I created a mask on the family pic and blended away the edges with varying opacity with the brush tool. I opened the sunset picture in Photoshop, and did the same as with my family photo. I placed it on top of the flag. I added a mask and then blended that with the brush tool and varying opacity. I went back and enhanced each photo using different coloration. For the flag, I enhanced select colors on each photo, sharpened, and darkened the contrast. I then added the text, with 10 separate text boxes so I could manipulate their placement. I emphasized the words I felt needed it, by changing their font and size. I added a drop shadow, increased its opacity by 50%, and adjusted the spread and size to mid-range on all words. I added the yellow line with the pencil to add flow.

Date: January 26, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Photoshop and InDesign Objectives: To create a flier with good design elements from predetermined text, logo, and picutres. Process: I edited a longer bar in Photoshop and erased a statue from the side of the picture. I put it in InDesign and added the specified text and a gray bar for flow. I added the specified logo at the bottom. I wanted to have a full bleed flier with this particular picture.

Logos
Description: Three logos for the same company. Date: February 22, 2104 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator Objectives: Create three unique logos for the same company using Adobe Illustrator Process: Top Logo: I imported a picture of a baseball cap off the internet, then used the pen tool to recreate it before deleting it. I filled in the color with the blog brush. I changed the outline color to navy blue. I made the word Joes first using the rectangle tool, then easing the corner with the pen tool, then filling in the color, and making it look casual with the blob brush and two different shades of the brick color. I added a text box for the word pizza and colored the inside green like the hat, and the outline navy blue, like the hat. Middle Logo: I imported a photo of a pizza I liked off the internet, then using the pen tool I drew it abstractly. Then using three separate text boxes, I created the J, E, and s. Using the pen tool, I created the pizza slice for the apostrophe. I made a text box and typed the word pizza. I added a blue accent bar in the background to add flow to the logo. Bottom Logo: I wrote the word Joes using blue and the blob brush. I drew the abstract looking pizza slice. I added a type box and typed the words Pizza shop. Using the shape tool, I created an oval and filled it with the color orange, and sent it to the back.

Business Card
Description: The front and back of a business card Date: February 28, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign Objectives: Create a logo in Illustrator and place in InDesign. Using both programs together. Process: I drew the logo with the pen tool first and used the basic pattern as a soft background with a 1 point stroke and 10% opacity. After that was where I wanted it, I copied and pasted another logo design and added some more detail to it, and then added three shades of the color teal, and then rotated it the way I liked. I put the name and logo at the top left, and the information at the bottom right, with 30% opacity so that it would not draw attention away from the logo at the top. I copied the logo and title from my stationary onto my 3.5 x 2 inch card and added the repeating gray lines as a simple outline to the front of my card. The front of the card has the same basic design as the letterhead, except more bold and compact. I wanted more contrast on the back of the card, so I made it a dark teal and placed just the logo design on top.

Stationary
Description: Stationary letterhead paper for a business or company. Date: February 28, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign Objectives: Create a new logo in Illustrator and place in Indesign, and create a matching stationary letterhead for a business or company to go with business cards. Process: Using a picture of online as a reference, I drew the logo with the pen tool first and used the basic pattern as a soft background with a 1 point stroke and 10% opacity. After that was where I wanted it, I copied and pasted another logo design and added some more detail to it, and then added three shades of the color teal, and then rotated it the way I liked. I played around with the lines on the side and placement of text. I wanted the letterhead to look balanced, so I put the name and logo at the top left, and the information at the bottom right, with 20% opacity so that it would not draw attention away from the logo at the top.

Web Page
Description: A webpage showcasing a logo I created. Date: March 15, 2014 Course/Instructor: COMM. 130 Visual Media, Cory Kerr Programs/Tools: PC version of a text editor called Notepad++ Objectives: Create a webpage using a text editor to write and modify HTML and CSS to showcase a logo I created. Process: The base code was written for me, and I had to add links to my logo and to my blog. I had to change my logo so that it would work in HTML. To do this I opened my logos in Adobe Illustrator and clipped the art-board around my logo to be 400 by 250 pixels. Then I saved it to the web as a PNG-24 and transparent. Then I added it to the folder with my HTML and CSS files, using the appropriate code to link them. I looked up the hex color numbers to match my logo using the eyedropper in Adobe Photoshop. I changed the colors in CSS, and the fonts, font-sizes, and slight shape of the outside border. I wish I had a more detailed knowledge of CSS, because there was more I wouldve liked to do. But this start was a good one.
