1. What are the three main stages of project planning? Answer: The three main stages of Project Planning in a contractors out-fit are: a. Pre-Tender Planning Phase b. Pre- Contract Planning Phase c. Contract Planning Phase 2. Name the major items that a contractor who has being invited to bid for a project must consider before accepting or rejecting the invitation. Answer: The major items to be considered by a contractor before making a decision to bid include: a. The facts surrounding the project b. Ones chances of winning the contract c. The projects viability and profitability 3. What is the purpose of a site visit report? Answer: The purpose of a site visit report is to collect relevant data relating to the site and project in terms of the availability and unavailability of necessary services, utilities, facilities and so on. 4. List the major contents of a site visit report. Answer: a. Access to site. b. Availability of space for siting site facilities like offices, canteens, stores, materials. c. Availability of utility services like electricity, water, telephone to or around site. d. Site security. e. Details of damage to existing structures. f. Nature of ground and conditions of trial holes. g. Local water table. h. Nearest benchmark. i. Availability of local labour, and local rates of pay. j. Availability of local suppliers, plant hire companies and sub-contractors. k. Availability of lodging accommodation. l. Availability of transport services to site. m. 6. Differentiate between pre-tender planning and pre-contract planning. Answer: Pre-tender planning includes all activities that are undertaken when project is known, up to the time of submission of a bona-fide tender or bid whiles Pre-contract Planning includes all activities from the time of receipt of contract award letter to the time of site possession. 7. Give examples of schedules that can be used during the pre-contract planning phase of a building project. Answer: a. Master programme b. Sub-contractor programme c. Procurement programme 8. Describe the types of programmes that can be used during the contract planning phase of a construction project. Answer: a. Stage programme is a work schedule usually a Gnatt Chart that show activities, their durations and may include start and finish dates for a specific scope of work, say Piling works or Retaining wall works. b. Short term programme is a work schedule usually a Gnatt Chart that show activities, their durations and may include start and finish dates for a specific time peroid, say for three months or one month. It is also referred to as a Look-ahead Programme. c. As built programme is an actual work schedule usually a Gnatt Chart that show actual activities, their actual durations and may include actual start and actual finish dates to reflect the actual sequence of a completed project. 9. Explain the term Tender Adjudication . Answer: Tender adjudication is the process whereby an adjudication panel consisting of representatives of senior management and estimating team take necessary actions to convert an estimate submitted by estimating team into a tender or bid.
