REGULATIONS
These specifications are to be used as basic requirements. Should there be any deviation between these specifications and local codes and standards, the local codes and standards shall govern.

SKID DESIGN AND FABRICATION

4.1
All skids shall be designed to fit the particular conditions of their service and the following items shall be investigated and considered in skid design: Land or marine based service Type of support under skid Unsupported span lengths in servicing and during hydrostatic test conditions Type of equipment on skid Tiedown or anchor (if any) Handling and transportation conditions Electrical area classifications

4.2

All skids shall be constructed of the latest issues of structural steel members conforming to ASTM A36, and tubular members conforming to ASTM A501, or pipe conforming to the latest issues of ASTM A106, or API 5L. Steel of equal or superior material specifications (e.g., BX, DIN, etc.) may be used. The stresses in skid beams, including those imposed by the lifting slings during loading and unloading, shall not exceed the stress allowable as outlined in the AISC Specification. The primary beams, longitudinal base members, shall be considered as having supports at the extreme ends of the skid span during installation of the skid unit, i.e., with equipment dry weight applied. A maximum deflection of L/360 shall be allowed on primary beams designed with the above consideration of loading and support, where L is the span between supports. Special consideration shall be taken in case of high precision machinery, according to the manufacturer instructions. The spacing of transverse beams shall not exceed Lu of the primary beams, where Lu (unbraced length) is defined in the AISC Steel Construction Manual.

4.4

The primary members shall be adequately crossbraced to prevent flexing or distortion of skid during transporting and installation. Equipment mounted on skid shall not be considered bracing. The skid shall be all welded construction, and as a minimum all welding shall be done in accordance with AWS D1.1. If all welded construction is prohibited by shipping or handling conditions, then bolted construction will be permitted, and bolts meeting ASTM A325 specification will be incorporated in all strength connections. Welding requiring stress relief, shall be avoided. Special care should be taken with the thickness and material type for this consideration. If holes drilled in a beam flange or holes cut in the web of a member reduce the net section to the extent that the stresses in the member exceed the allowable stresses specified by AISC, the member shall be reinforced with welded plate having a thickness sufficient to provide the additional required area. In no case shall plate less than 6,35 mm (1/4 inch) thick be used. Metal thickness at point of equipment bolting shall be 9,5 mm (3/8 inch) minimum thickness. Floor grating shall not be used as a mounting surface for equipment or supports. Padtype lifting lugs, designed for a load factor of 2,0, for lifting sling attachments and one point pickup shall be attached to facilitate loading and unloading. If the skid is to be transported by truck at the fabrication yard or at any time while in route to the job site, or at the job site, the overhang from the truck bed shall not exceed 1/3 the total lengths of the skid. Further, for truck transportation the center to center dimension between primary longitudinal beams shall not exceed 1,83 meter (6,00 ft.). The maximum allowable weight and dimensions for steel assemblies to be transported are the Contractor s responsibility. Bar grating, 38.1 mm (11/2 inch) deep with serrated edges constructed of ASTM A36 steel, shall cover all open areas on top of skid around the mounted equipment. All mounted equipment containing hydrocarbons that can be spilled and/or drained into the skid area shall have a drippan under the particular equipment. The drippan shall be constructed of 6,35 mm (1/4 inch) plate conforming to ASTM A36. The drippan shall be provided with a valved drain (2inch NPS minimum) piped to the edge of the skid.

Adequate ladders and/or stairs and platforms shall be provided for operating and maintenance access to all instruments, controls, and valves. Platforms shall be equipped with handrails, knee rails, and kickplates. Platforms and stair tread shall be made from bar grating and all stair treads shall have safety nosing. Floor grating shall be removable when required by individual specifications and drawings. Handrails must be continuous, uniform in height, and safe to slide hand along. Vertical ladders shall have safety chains across the top handrail stanchion. Design guidelines will be supplied by customer. Any substitution or modification of materials which have been specified by the purchaser shall be made by written request to the Owner, with a reason given for this substitution or modifications. No substitutions will be allowed without written approval from the purchaser. Temporary structural elements provided to protect equipment during, transportation shall be easily removable. Welding shall be avoided.

4.15

4.16

MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS
5.1
The apparatus shall be a selfcontained unit mounted on a structural steel skid. All necessary valves, controls, and other equipment shall be completely piped. All inlet, outlet, utility, and drain connections shall be extended to termination at the skid edge. All terminal piping connections shall be held to plan and elevation dimensions as shown on drawing. Interconnecting skids shall be joined by flanged piping that has been checked for proper fitup by assembly in the fabricator s shop. All piping and instrument tubing shall be rigidly supported for service and shipment. The support and installation shall be made to allow piping to be removed without cutting of main structural members. Lateral, etc. loadings caused by piping reactions that are to be transmitted by the skid to the foundation shall be considered in skid design. The skidded unit shall be coated according to Specification for Painting, PDVSA O201.

Instruments to be removed, as required by other relevant specifications, shall be tagged and crated in waterproof boxes constructed from 51 mm (2 inch) lumber. Instruments shall be packed with sufficient dessicant for protection in transit and during storage at job site. Boxes shall be securely attached to the skid for shipment. Any equipment extending beyond the skid edge shall be removed, tagged, and crated in waterproof boxes constructed from 51 mm (2 inch) lumber. Boxes shall be securely attached to the skid for shipment. All openings, flange faces, threaded connections, valve stems, and other component parts subject to mechanical damage or corrosion shall be adequately protected. Such protection shall consist of but not be limited to, bolted wood or plastic flange covers, sealing with waterproof tape, enclosing with temporary metal housings, and coating all machined and threaded surfaces with a rust preventative. This protection shall be applied to all components, those removed and boxed and those remaining in place on the skid assembly. All piping and handrails removed for shipment shall be properly tagged and secured to the skid from which it was removed. Owner shall have the right to inspect the material, fabrication (including nondestructive testing of welds) and erection of all items associated with this specification and the contrat drawings. The Owner or Owner s Representative shall be granted free access at all times to any part of the fabrication facility to perform these inspections. The Owner will conduct this inspection in such a way as not to impede fabrication. Every effort shall be extended in the interest of quality workmanship and of maintaining fabrication schedules.
