Purpose of Research Action Plan: This research action plan will enhance my understanding of illegal dumping and its impact on the waste management for Blacktown City Council. It will allow me to identify issues that need addressing, enabling me to improve the communities within the council and help the environmental state of Australia. Why is waste management important to Australia? Waste management is highly important to Australia due to a variety of reasons. It refers to the organization of waste, which includes the disposal of municipal wastes, commercial and industrial wastes, and prescribed wastes. Correct and safe organization of waste is essential to the wellbeing of Australias environment, civilisation and countless ecosystems. If waste management is not successfully established, detrimental and hazardous situations are created, such as the contamination of irrigation systems, which poisons the environment and causes a rapid decrease in the availability of crops and therefore a reduction in food and an increase in market prices. Other situations caused by incorrect and unsafe waste management include harmful problems for flora and fauna, which is initiated through pollution, littering and illegal dumping. Animals can often mistaken plastic bags for food and attempt to consume them, resulting in choking or suffocation. A well-known case of this type of situation is Pete The Pelican, who died upon eating plastic bags that had been littered in Kiama. Furthermore, waste management is imperative to the future. Unsafe and incorrect waste management is unsustainable and insufficient for Australias future, as the country is legitimately running out of room for waste. With traditional methods for waste management, such as landfill sites, creating too much instability through air pollution, local health risks, increases in greenhouse gases and infrastructure damage, waste management has become strongly important to Australia. Unsafe waste management contributes to the greenhouse effect, which is extremely detrimental. Earth naturally has greenhouse gases to trap heat in the atmosphere in order to keep the environment at stable temperatures, but with situations like landfill sites creating emissions that increase these greenhouse gases, the atmosphere starts to become too hot. This initiates damage to animals, which are unable to adjust to these extreme temperatures, leading to endangered and extinct species. It also damages the ozone layer, which causes high UV rates that damage skin and create melanoma. However, if waste management is thoroughly addressed and heavily contemplated in Australia, all of these detrimental situations and

damaging cases can be easily avoided. Waste management and its importance are imperative to the wellbeing of Australian civilisation, as the incorrect disposal of waste causes heavy impacts on society by affecting the economic and environmental states of Australia.
