Women in the Law: Power and ProGress
The Federal Bar Associations inaugural conference will feature vibrant and dynamic discussions of the unique challenges and successes of women in law and leadership from a number of perspectives. Speakers will include judges, academics, and thought leaders from corporate, nonprot, government, and law rm backgrounds. There will be two thought proving keynote speakers: Hon. Beverly McLachlin, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, and Hon. Patricia A. Millett, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

Panel discussions will include expert opinion on topics like the History of Women in the Law, the Development of Domestic Law as it Affects Women, Breaking Barriers: the Glass Ceiling in the Legal Profession and a session devoted to ethics. This conference is not to be missed by lawyers aiming to thrive in todays legal climate!

CLE Credit
This seminar is pending approval for 6.5 hours of CLE credit, including 1 hour of ethics credit. Accreditation has been requested from every state with mandatory CLE requirements. Certicates of attendance will be provided to each attendee. Attendees are responsible for obtaining CLE credits from their respective states. HON. BEVERLY MCLAChLIN ChIEF JUSTICE, SUPREmE COURT OF CANADA
Chief Justice McLachlin was educated at the University of Alberta, where she received a B.A., an M.A., and an LL.B. She taught for seven years at the University of British Columbia as a tenured associate professor. Chief Justice McLachlins judicial career began in April 1981, when she was appointed to the Vancouver County Court. In September 1981, she was appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. She was elevated to the British Columbia Court of Appeal in 1985 and was appointed chief justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1988. Seven months later, she was sworn in as a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. On Jan. 7, 2000, she was appointed Chief Justice of Canada; she is the rst woman to hold this position.

HON. PATRICIA A. MILLETT ChIEF JUDGE, U.S. COURT ThE D.C. CIRCUIT

FOR

Judge Millett was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals on Dec. 10, 2013. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and from Harvard Law School. After working at Miller & Chevalier for two years, she clerked for Hon. Thomas Tang of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following her clerkship, she worked for four years on the appellate staff of the Civil Division in the U.S. Department of Justice and for 11 years as an assistant in the Ofce of the Solicitor General. In September 2007, she became a partner leading the Supreme Court and appellate practices at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. She has argued 32 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

ShEILA L. BIRmbAUm, PARTNER, QUINN EmANUEL URqUhART & SULLIVAN LLP
Sheila L. Birnbaum practices primarily in products liability, toxic torts, and insurance coverage litigation and was national counsel for numerous Fortune 500 companies. In the U.S. Supreme Court, she successfully argued Buckley v. Metro North, a landmark case involving medical monitoring. Birnbaum has received the ABAs Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award, the John L. McCloy Memorial Award from the Fund for Modern Courts, and the Law and Society Award from the New York Lawyers for the Public Interest. She has been selected multiple times by The National Law Journal as one of the 100 most outstanding members of the legal profession and she was proled as one of the three outstanding lawyers of 2013.

LT. GEN. FLORA D. DARPINO, JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERALS CORPS., U.S. ARmY
Lt. Gen. Flora D. Darpino was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and began serving as the 39th Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army. Lt. Gen. Darpino is the rst woman to hold the position in the 236-year history of the JAG Corps. Lt. Gen. Darpino received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College, a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University, and a Master of Laws degree in military law from The Judge Advocate Generals School. Her awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with ve Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal.

HON. AIDA DELGADO-COLN, ChIEF JUDGE, U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR ThE DISTRICT OF PUERTO RICO
Chief Judge Delgado-Coln joined the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico in 2006 and became the chief judge on April 14, 2011. Prior to being appointed to the bench, she was a legal investigator and the director of research and investigation in the Department of Labor and Human Resources for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. She was also an assistant federal public defender for the District of Puerto Rico and also served as the acting federal public defender for the District of Puerto Rico in 1991. Chief Judge Delgado-Coln also taught as an adjunct professor at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico.

STACY LEEDS, DEAN, ARKANSAS LAW SChOOL
Stacy Leeds has served as dean and professor of law at the University of Arkansas School of Law since 2011. From 20032011, she was a member of the law faculty at the University of Kansas School of Law, where she directed the Tribal Law and Government Center. In 2013, Leeds was recognized with the ABAs Spirit of Excellence Award for her work in promoting a more racially and ethnically diverse legal profession. She began a three-year term as chair of the Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission in February 2013. Leeds is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, a former justice on the Cherokee Nation Supreme Court, and the only Native American law school dean in the United States.

CAThARINE A. MACKINNON, ELIZAbETh A. LONG PROFESSOR OF LAW, UNIVERSITY OF MIChIGAN LAW SChOOL
Catherine A. MacKinnon is the Elizabeth A. Long professor of law at the University of Michigan and the James Barr Ames visiting professor of law at Harvard Law School (long-term). She pioneered the legal claim for sexual harassment and the Supreme Court of Canada has largely accepted her approaches to equality, pornography, and hate speech, which have been inuential internationally as well. MacKinnons scholarly books include Sexual Harassment of Working Women (1979), Feminism Unmodied (1987), Toward a Feminist Theory of the State (1989), Only Words (1993), Womens Lives, Mens Laws (2005), Are Women Human? (2006), and the casebook Sex Equality (2001/2007).

CAmILLE NELSON, DEAN, SUFFOLK LAW SChOOL


Camille A. Nelson is the rst female dean of the Suffolk University Law School and the rst person of color to hold that position. In 2012 and 2013, Nelson was listed among the most inuential black lawyers and diversity advocates in the nation, being named to the Power 100 list published by On Being A Black Lawyer. She is widely recognized for her writings and lectures, which have focused on the intersection of critical race theory and cultural studies. A gifted teacher, Nelson was named Faculty Member of the Year at Saint Louis University School of Law in 2004 and received the university-wide Faculty Excellence Award from Saint Louis University in 2006.

HON. LORETTA A. PRESKA, ChIEF JUDGE, U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR ThE SOUThERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK
Judge Preska was appointed U.S. district judge for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 12, 1992, and entered duty on Sept. 18, 1992. From June 1, 2009 to the present, she has served as chief judge of that court. Chief Judge Preska received a B.A. from the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., in 1970, a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1973, and an LL.M. in trade regulation from New York University Law School in 1978. Following graduation from Fordham, Chief Judge Preska was an associate at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP, then an associate and, beginning in January 1983, a partner at Hertzog, Calamari & Gleason until her induction as a U.S. district judge.

NANCY RAPOPORT, GORDON SILVER PROFESSOR OF LAW, UNIVERSITY OF NEVADALAS VEGAS BOYD SChOOL OF LAW
After graduating from Stanford Law School, Nancy Rapoport clerked for Hon. Joseph T. Sneed of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and then practiced law with Morrison & Foerster. She started her academic career at the Ohio State University College of Law in 1991, serving as an assistant professor, associate professor, associate dean for student affairs, and professor before leaving in 1998. She served as dean of the University of Nebraska College of Law and as dean and professor of law at the University of Houston Law Center. In 2001, she was elected to membership in the American Law Institute, and in 2002, she received a Distinguished Alumna Award from Rice University.

MIChELE RObERTS, PARTNER, SKADDEN, ARPS, SLATE, MEAGhER & FLOm LLP
Michele Roberts is a renowned trial lawyer and a member of Skaddens Litigation Group. She has been called the nest pure trial lawyer in Washington, D.C., by Washingtonian Magazine and has tried more than 100 cases to jury verdicts in a wide variety of areas. Roberts was the recipient of the Business Trial Lawyer of the Year at the 2011 Chambers USA Awards of Excellence as well as being named one of Benchmark Litigations Top 250 Women in Litigation in 2013. She is a frequent lecturer and presenter to both the bench and bar on a variety of topics related to litigation and trial practice.
